I moved house from an NTL area to NTL area, and transfered my services, the engineers diddnt turn up to install my services on the 16-sep, so re-arranged for 7th oct (also cancelled tv + phone in anger - but thats another story) I am keeping the broadband.

The new property had ntl previously, I plugged in my cable modem from the old house to see what would happen, it worked, and I could surf.

The question I am asking is are lines (houses) tied to modem MAC's ? i.e. can you only use one registered modem per line?? or can you use any active NTL modem (with valid MAC) on an active NTL line??

I dont know if I am using my line or the previous owners (ntl customer service wernt making sense)

cheers!

I'm pretty sure the modem's MAC address is tied to your line as when you move house you have to register the modem. Also, I had to clone the modems MAC address to get it to work with my router (although that was with the older silver modem, when I got my new blue one I had to clone my NIC's MAC address)
