View Full Version : PC Keeps dropping Connection
Hope some one can help me with this one. I have 4 meg broadband connected via an ethernet conection direct to the pc. It works absolutely fine until my pc goes into standby. If I come out of standby the connection has dropped and the only way I can get a reconnection is to shut down the PC, disconnect the modem and then reconnect it and then re start the PC. Once this is done it all works fine until the PC hibernates again. I have to do this each and every time the PC goes into standby.
This has only been happening for the last four days. I rang the help desk and was told its a PC problem and they couldn't support.
Please Help
Many thamks

What OS are you using? I think this can be a problem with pre XP systems. I think the only solution is to disable the standby/power saving options for the PC in control panel, or buy a wired/wireless router to put between the PC & the modem. This will keep alive the connection even if your PC goes into standby....
I have exactly the same problem as you, it has been doing this for about six months and you know what I disabled my fire wall and bingo I got my connection back, without re-booting !

I am using windows XP on this PC conected via cable to a Belkin router. The other two PC's and the playstation connected to the network don't have a problem.
My PC is connected via wire to the router ethernet conection. The other PC's are on a wireless conection.
Have tried to change my PC to wireless and to use a USB connection instead of ethernet but it continues to do the same.

check to see if your network card is set to allow turn this device off to save power.
start>control panel>network connections>right click your network card>properties>configure>power management
worth a shot.....i think
