I recently had digital telly installed and there was the inevitable phone calls to ntl to sort out teething problems. Guess what, they have charged us on our phone bill for calling ntl customer service from an ntl phone. Now I'll be charged for phoning to complain about the charges and so on....
Is this correct? The number we used is 0845 454 0000

Yes, that is correct. 0845 numbers are charged at local rate. However, there has been a huge public outcry about this, and they should be reverting back to the original (and free) 150 number.

:td: It was wrong for ntl to charge you for the phone call to report a problem with there service:td: But as others have said ntl are going back to free calls to report a fault and to contact cust serv:tu:

I can understand them wanting to make some money, but charging customers for reporting faults is not the way to do it! LOL

If you call 150 from your NTL landline it should already be working in some areas :)

Most other service providers already charge for making calls to them, and have done for a while.

oct 2nd is the date when it will be rolled out on all franchises, but looking from peoples responses it looks like its already been done in most if not all areas.

Its free to call 150 or 1503 from an NTL line.

Telewest did the same thing back in 2003. 150 is free to call.

So why are people continuing to use the 0845 number?

Fair enough but the number at top of bill is 0845........ 150 from now on.

In fact why did people dial 0800-052-2000?

When the shortcodes were available. As far as I know, ex-cable and wireless users dial 1503 whilst other areas it was 151.

Telewest is much more organised and have it as the following:

150 Telewest customer service
151 Telewest faults and technical support
152 BT Business customer service
154 BT Faults
173 Telewest credit services
179 Dial up internet access number (3p per minute)

All of the above numbers are free to call from a Telewest line except otherwise stated.
