Gaming looks set to be free as well as chat but you'll have to pay for extra content and downloadable games:-

I thought live silver came with the x360, or is that just for a year or somthing ?
I do know mine begged me to sign upto gold. I said no enough times it gave me a months free use of gold

Yes it does, but that only allows you to download the demos and not play games online.
