Just over a year ago on 08/08/2005 this statement from ntl appeared in the CableForum News Article section and implied that 10Mb would become the standard speed by end 2006 with customers being able to choose a Usage Allowance to suit their needs, or a service with "unlimited" Usage.

Has anyone heard anymore about this?

Nope :) Before they offered this imo they'd need to do a whole lot of network upgrades

Well, i do know something is going on, there have been a lot of network upgrades on NTLs status page lately and some network rebalancing too.

I still don't know if they are going to do this or if they are doing something else bigger, we'll just have to wait and see...

I believe that idea was shelved in favour of the unlimited 1 (soon to be 2), 4 and 10meg packages.

I think theyll hold out for something bigger tbh, but that's just speculation.

Thanks for all your replies.

I'm on 10Mb shared to 3 PCs now and enjoy the speedy downloads, but my son will be leaving home soon I can't really justify the expense for the 10-15Gb a month I download.

I rather like the idea of a cheaper 10Mb BB service with a soft download limit of say 10Gb or 20Gb then a pro-rata payment system if you go beyond that.

Seems they are currently rolling out the 1 - 2Mb upgrade

u mean the upgrade to Totally ****ed Internet status.

Whatever they have done up here is going to result in a earbashing soon. 4mb connection that is as effective as a dialup modem (crap one at that) and its been going on for a week. If engineer doesnt fix it tommorrow CS will be getting a phonecall with request for credit.

They'll be getting a phonecall from me too. My '4Mb' line has been no better than a 128k line for over a week now. I guess their upgrade really shafted a lot of users :(

NTL Upgrade - an oxymoron if I ever I saw one

I don't know if someone has just flipped a switch somewhere but after a week of virtually no internet it suddenly just gone into overdrive and is running at the full 4MB line it is supposed to be! :Yikes::Yikes:

Hopefully it'll stay like this now :erm:

I'll have to see about getting a new modem to improve my connection. As expected, normality didn't last very long :(
