Hi, i was just thinking of moving from Bt broadband as i've been having annoying connection problems, slow speens and disconnects for the past month and it still hasnt been fixed. But the only cable broadband avalible in my NW london finchley area is ntl (dam why cant telewest be there!).

Though after reading all this and other review it doesnt seem to be any like if would be better for me at the moment... Should i risk it, of try to find a ADSL thats good for my area? ntl uses what do you thing?

I'd go NTL over BT Broadband any day mate. :welcome: to the Forum!

I've had ntl internet up here in Notts since about 1998 (when it was dial-up) and then 128Kbit, 1Mbit, 10Mbit and now on 4Mbit and don't have many problems. There are the odd one or two but nothing major.

Some other people on here, though, seem to have had a few bigger problems. I think the main problems are not with the product but the customer service. Again, I've had no probs with them, but some folks have had some nightmare stories to tell us.

But I personally prefer ntl over DSL (since that would mean having a BT line again urgh lol)

I have been with bt and tiscali both kept loosing conection , went over to ntl and have never looked back. I even had people telling me not to go with ntl for internet but im glad i never listened to them.

Fudge - I saw that you have mentioned Tiscali in your post above. What was it like trying to cancel Tiscali? One of my managers at work was stuck in limbo for 4 months while waiting for his service to migrate from Tiscali to Force 9.

Having just got proxies back again on NTL, perfoming worse than ever, I would say NO, DO NOT GO NTL.

Can you get Talktalk there? - since no broadband is perfect, may as well have one that's cheap!

I recommend going NTL in the Cambridge area, everything works fine for me currently.

I'm in the NW London area, and do NOT recommend it in this area, i'm on the 10Mbps service and this is a speed test with NO security installed:

1st 512K took 3484 ms = 147 KB/sec, approx 1211 Kbps, 1.18 Mbps
2nd 512K took 4453 ms = 115 KB/sec, approx 948 Kbps, 0.93 Mbps
3rd 512K took 1687 ms = 303.5 KB/sec, approx 2501 Kbps, 2.44 Mbps
4th 512K took 2984 ms = 171.6 KB/sec, approx 1414 Kbps, 1.38 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 1519 Kbps, 1.48 Mbps

Cant speak for your area but up north I`d go for NTL anytime. The service is steady. The billing section is run by muppets but once it settles down theres no probs. One advantage is that recently we had a maniac who was burning BT boxes out & cutting the area off. I was the only one with a working phone for 2 weeks.

I've had it since it first came to Derby and would recommend it. I worked as a manager in the BT openworld call centre here, almost everyone who could, had NTL BB
