View Full Version : Any Volvo drivers here?
I've just come back in from an early morning shop and on the way there and back I passed 2 Volvos with their lights on.
Why do Volvo drivers feel the need to have their lights on in the day like that? I know other car drivers do it as well but it seems like every Volvo I see does it. Why is that?
Are volvos not set to have lights on at all time anyway?
Seemingly its due to a Swedish law requiring sidelights on at all times

So it's the car as opposed to the driver keeping them on?
yes volvo sidelights are on as standard when driving
But they seem to be a lot brighter than sidelights
Yep, like dezzo says, it's the law in Sweden to have your headlights on - Iceland, Denmark, Finland and Norway have similar laws, iirc. Dates back 30 years or so, and all modern cars in Sweden (and all Volvos everywhere) automatically put the lights on once the engine is started.
They're referred to as DRL - or Daytime Running lights. You can find out the Government's stance on them here... http://www.rmd.dft.gov.uk/project.asp?intProjectID=10315
