I've been reasonably happy with my service for a couple of years now but just lately everything's gone to pot.

Over the past month or so I've lost my service half a dozen times at least - no signal, failed to range, pre and post RS errors, lots of picture freezing and pops on the sound - I'm also noticing that my Card Status is often showing as 0 and my SnR is up and down all the time.

Have had two visits from NTL and both times they've fitted attenuators - I now have two.

My download speeds are also rubbish given that I'm supposed to be on the 10M option.

1st 512K took 3743 ms = 136.8 KB/sec, approx 1127 Kbps, 1.1 Mbps
2nd 512K took 2428 ms = 210.9 KB/sec, approx 1738 Kbps, 1.7 Mbps
3rd 512K took 3102 ms = 165.1 KB/sec, approx 1360 Kbps, 1.33 Mbps
4th 512K took 2710 ms = 188.9 KB/sec, approx 1557 Kbps, 1.52 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 1446 Kbps, 1.41 Mbps

Best I've seen lately is around 2Mbps and I get similar results no matter where I do the speed test - adslguide, here, using Dan Elwell's speed tester.

I think we've recently been given the VOD service and I'm wondering if this has anything to do with it and who should I complain to - normal CS or Broadband CS?

I'm on a STB - SMT2100C.

We've just had VOD activated in Leeds, and it hasn't caused any speed issues.

Do you use ZoneAlarm as a firewall? A few people have noticed lately that the latest versions of the free ZA have been causing speed issues. May I recommend that you try speedtest.net, with and without the firewall.

Hope this helps.

Tried Speedtest.net with and without ZoneAlarm and the difference is minor - a couple of hundred kb/sec - though it is faster today than yesterday but still only 2 to 3 Mb/sec.

And I've just lost my signal again about 10 minutes ago and now the TV picture's breaking up again. Sigh.... another long wait on the phone by the looks of it.

Hi Chris.
