We have a wall in the Kitchen thats been stripped down to the plaster, but there are irregularities in the wall where the electrics were fitted.

What we want to do is paint the wall, instead of papering it.

Do we chip away the bumpy plaster and even it out, or do we just skim over it?

If we skim it do we still need to chip away at the old wall for it to take the new plaster, or do we apply a glue coat?

Any help with this much appreciated.

If you skim, you'd need to do a large area. That requires skill. I know there are DIY options available, but even so they also need skill, practice and patience.

You don't necessarily have to roughen the surface before application, but you need to know it's sound. Paint can be bad news. Most plasterers love a watered dwon Unibond to promote easy adhesion.

The dusty option is perhaps to sand down, and apply localised filler.

if the bumps arent too bad, chip away any high spots and then get a bag of finishing plaster from wickes and apply a thin coat. mix a pva glue into the skim mix too.
