Hi all,

Sorry to say that, apparently like a lot of other folks here, I'm having lots of problems with my 4MB connection. Prior to the 2MB->4MB upgrade it seemed fine, but since then it's very unreliable - now and again the connection just dies, pings and traceroutes all time out. It stays that way until I power-cycle the cable modem; once I do that it all comes back to life again, until the next outage. I'm finding myself power cycling the modem five or six times during the course of the evening.

The bad thing is that the cable modem's status lights do not show any problems, they are lit as they are supposed to be (the cable modem is an NTL 250). I'm worried that if I call NTL tech support, they'll say there's nothing wrong, when I'm quite sure there is.

Here's the info I was able to extract from the cable modem's web server. Note that whenever I see an outage I'm not able to navigate to the web page on the cable modem, which is a bit strange. I can only see the CM status page whenever the connection is working correctly. Note that there are lots and lots of the errors reproduced below in the error log, I've only added a sample of those (they're all the same).

OMG, another person with the same problem?! These upgrade are crippling NTL's network.

Take a look at these two posts and you'll find your answer (I had the same thing with my 10mbit).

I have the same problem.

Seems to be packet loss on a huge scale. Some sites are ok but others you could make a cup of tea and watch a full episode of Coronation Street before a page loads.

Phew! I'm glad I finally managed to read this thread!!

From the title I've always assumed it was something to do with the latest production from the local amateur dramatics society...
