1st 512K took 4031 ms = 127 KB/sec, approx 1046 Kbps, 1.02 Mbps
2nd 512K took 4469 ms = 114.6 KB/sec, approx 944 Kbps, 0.92 Mbps
3rd 512K took 7500 ms = 68.3 KB/sec, approx 563 Kbps, 0.55 Mbps
4th 512K took 16718 ms = 30.6 KB/sec, approx 252 Kbps, 0.25 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 701 Kbps, 0.69 Mbps

This is 1 meg service. Just wondered if any significance in speed dropping off
in 3rd & 4th 512k. Been like that all afternnon.

Lucky you.

Starting from Wednesday night, every night I have no more than 0.45!!! and I have official 4M line.
I am in Bedford.

Speed tests are very unreliable. The 4th test often drops off for me and i know it's incorrect.

1st 512K took 453 ms = 1130.2 KB/sec, approx 9313 Kbps, 9.09 Mbps
2nd 512K took 453 ms = 1130.2 KB/sec, approx 9313 Kbps, 9.09 Mbps
3rd 512K took 422 ms = 1213.3 KB/sec, approx 9998 Kbps, 9.76 Mbps
4th 512K took 1203 ms = 425.6 KB/sec, approx 3507 Kbps, 3.42 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 8033 Kbps, 7.84 Mbps

Web based speed tests are unreliable, as they can be affected by the load on the server.

Seems ok to me atm ;

1st 512K took 484 ms = 1057.9 KB/sec, approx 8717 Kbps, 8.51 Mbps
2nd 512K took 453 ms = 1130.2 KB/sec, approx 9313 Kbps, 9.09 Mbps
3rd 512K took 422 ms = 1213.3 KB/sec, approx 9998 Kbps, 9.76 Mbps
4th 512K took 438 ms = 1169 KB/sec, approx 9633 Kbps, 9.41 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 9415 Kbps, 9.19 Mbps

1st 512K took 1984 ms = 258.1 KB/sec, approx 2127 Kbps, 2.08 Mbps
2nd 512K took 1969 ms = 260 KB/sec, approx 2142 Kbps, 2.09 Mbps
3rd 512K took 1891 ms = 270.8 KB/sec, approx 2231 Kbps, 2.18 Mbps
4th 512K took 1969 ms = 260 KB/sec, approx 2142 Kbps, 2.09 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 2161 Kbps, 2.11 Mbps

Which is way better than previous, however it is only a half of what it should be, but I don't care what it is atm. I do care about the speed between 20.00 and 23.00 when it is a complete crap 0.45!

I am sorry Paul, but for some reason Robin Walker's speed test shows higher and more consistent speeds.

I'm not just trying to live in false hope of the connection being better than it actually is, I can look at my netgraphs and such and see it is.

It is very consistant for me:

Sun, 27 Aug 2006 04:59:25 UTC

1st 512K took 437 ms = 1171.6 KB/sec, approx 9654 Kbps, 9.43 Mbps
2nd 512K took 436 ms = 1174.3 KB/sec, approx 9676 Kbps, 9.45 Mbps
3rd 512K took 437 ms = 1171.6 KB/sec, approx 9654 Kbps, 9.43 Mbps
4th 512K took 436 ms = 1174.3 KB/sec, approx 9676 Kbps, 9.45 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 9665 Kbps, 9.44 Mbps

Well it's improved but yesterday afternoon 3rd & 4th 512k were way down on
6 seperate tests.

Sun, 27 Aug 2006 08:58:35 UTC

1st 512K took 4047 ms = 126.5 KB/sec, approx 1042 Kbps, 1.02 Mbps
2nd 512K took 4328 ms = 118.3 KB/sec, approx 975 Kbps, 0.95 Mbps
3rd 512K took 6563 ms = 78 KB/sec, approx 643 Kbps, 0.63 Mbps
4th 512K took 7843 ms = 65.3 KB/sec, approx 538 Kbps, 0.53 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 800 Kbps, 0.78 Mbps

Is there any other way of testing speed that is more reliable?

Try this one http://www.speedtest.net/

best test is using a multi threaded download tool ie reget and a reliable site that allows multiple connections

I am sorry Paul, but for some reason Robin Walker's speed test shows higher and more consistent speeds.
You should note that higher does not actually mean more accurate. ;)

Our test is just a modified version of Robins, his is more unreliable on high speed connections (such as 10Meg) because the file size he uses (128K) is really too small for such high speeds (ours uses 512K). I also changed the overhead from 4% to 3% as I believe that to be more accurate. Other than that, they are the same (allthough I did also add Mbps to the output display). BTW, They both also run from the same place (ntl's user webspace servers). :)

No speed test is truly reliable as they depend on so many factors between you and the source.

Thanks a lot.
This one is very nice. In addition to download speed test it has upload speed test.
