Is it just me or has ntl:'s newsgroups been very unstable over the past few days with most binaries incomplete (completion rate is about 15%...)

Anyone know of a better ntl: news server with a better completion rate with binaries? :erm:

I have been using news.cable.ntlworld.com and 62.253.162.102

Thanks :)

'last few days' - more like the last few months!:(

sorry :welcome: to the forum, btw, don't want you to think it was a flame, just expressing a bit of frustration.:)

If you use the forum search facility you will see that poor newsgroup performance has been a topic of several discussions;)

you could try news.cache.cable.ntlworld.com or newscache.cable.ntlworld.com - but don't expect too much, except sometimes in the early hours.

There is a trial due to start next week, which is closed to new applicants, unfortunately. Ntl have set up some new equipment which they hope will solve the problem with newsgroups and are getting around 1000 people to try it out. However, even if the trial is successful, there is no telling how long it will take them to roll the new kit out to all subscribers - if it means spending money, rather than just flicking a switch, it's anyone's guess.

If you are serious about newsgroups, then at the moment, you would probably be better off looking at some of the paid options - unless you want less than 50MB per day as 'Teranews' is 'free', with that limitation ( & 'one off' sign up fee via credit card).

use text.news.ntlworld.com much faster and it's never down :D

He's not going to get a very good completion rate for Binaries though :)

Depends if you use newshgroups for binaries. To be honest, I'm not into warez or porn - I just use it for the chat ;)
