Can anyone help with some queries I have on the 4010 STB.

I understand that the 4010 is compatible with both DOCSIS and DAVIC protocols used in the NTL Bromley and Langley areas.

Do NTL currently use the 4010 in both areas, or just Langley ?

In Langley areas, I believe they supply the same Blue RC-5 remote as the 4001 STB uses, but in these areas will the black IRDA remote also work ?

Thanks in advance for any info.

The 4010 is not used in Bromley areas.

Theoretically it should be able to receive signals from the black remote, but I very much doubt the functions have been programmed into the software.

Incidentely, did you know that a blue NTL remote will work on a 4000 box?

The black remote does sometimes work with the 4010, but why would you want to?

Because I've had several people with Philips DVDR80 DVD recorders asking me if my Red-Eye Translator (http://www.redremote.co.uk) will let hem control their STB from the DVDR - Philips are referring them to me but I don't yet know enough to be able to help them.

By 'sometimes' do you mean that it works on all boxes, but not reliably,or only works on some boxes/areas ?

Also, does anyone know if Telewest use 4010s?

I think Telewest went for Scientific Atlanta boxes rather than the Pace 4000s.

Not 100percent sure on that tho.

I know they use SA boxes now, but I'd like to know if they ever used 4010s - I know TW have always only used IRDA remotes.

According to Pace's website TW used 4000 boxes.

Telewest use the 4000T, which has the same front panel button configuration as the 1000 and 2000 STBs. The 4000N, used by NTL, has the same button config as the 4001 and 4010s used in Langley areas. Otherwise the 4000T and 4000N are identical. Telewest have never used the 4010, which is a dual protocol box developed specially for NTL after the CWC takeover. However, the 4010 has never been used in Bromley areas, despite the fact it is perfectly capable of being used (I'd imagine this has a lot to do with the single-protocol 4000 being simpler, and therefore cheaper...).
