View Full Version : I got Connection Problem:NTL cable Broadband Linksys VS ADSL WAG354G,Ples help!
Dear All:
I have a Linksys Wireless-G ADSL home gateway Model No.WAG354G(UK), i try use it to set up Wireless network for few days, but it never work, i do not know what to do!
i found the Linksys Wireless-G ADSL home gateway have phone line connection socket , but the NTL cable Broadband i have got do not have phone line, so i do not know what to with the phone line socket , please tell me what to do, thank you very much!
Unless you are on an ADSL service with another provider then that linksys is useless to you. How do you get your broadband service? Through NTL cable modem, set top box or telephone line? If it's through STB or SACM then you need a DSL home gateway model as that is the service you are on.
you need a cable comptable router instead of an adsl one.
The difference is the ADSL routers have the modem built in where as the ones for cable/dsl have an ethernet port to connect to the seaperate cable/dsl modem!

As others have said an ADSL based router will not work on cable. If you've just bought it, return it as unfit for purpose (you did tell the shop you had cable broadband didn't you ;) ). If you have had it a while, then ebay it.
The Linkysys equivalent you need is the WRT54G that will work on Cable. That model is quite popular round these parts.
To set it up power everything, including modem, off. Plug the ethernet from your modem to the router's WAN port, and an ethernet from one of the four LAN ports to your computer's ehternet port. Then power the modem, ket settle, power the router, let settle, then power the PC. Once you have the wired connection running, then you can configure the wireless.
Dear paul, dragon , Rob C:
Thank you for your reply! solved all my problems, I will change router that support NTL cable modem.
My NTL Broadband is Through NTL cable modem, I never use cable broadband before. I was use Bt Broadband before that is why I bought Linksys ADSL WAG354G.
