Broadband just installed with Webstar EPC2100 modem. Puzzled by the power lights as follows:

Power and Cable always on (solid green)
Data Send and Receive hardly ever illuminate - remain dark
PC blinks bright green all the time - even when the PC is fully turned off - never solid green and never dark.

Broadband is working but do I need to worry about the power lights?

Thanks.

Most modern PCs don't actually fully turn off - power is still being supplied to the motherboard, and thus to the network card. This means the link to the cable modem is still active, so the modem still sends data to the PC. The PC just ignores it!

Send and Receive will only flash on when you are sending or receiving data, whereas the PC light will go on to indicate a link and flash off to indicate data being transferred.

So basically, nothing to worry about. ;)

Motherboards still apply power to the PCI slots and USB ports even when the computer is shut down, so chances are that if you're using a PCI or USB (god forbid) network adapter, there will still be activity even when your computer is off. Don't worry about getting virused or trojaned or anything, nothing can be damaged if Windows isn't booted :)

Many thanks to both of the above. Grateful for the re-assurance.
