well, i try to find a solution to a problem a friend of mine has.

In the end it boils down he needs change his IP.

he has a cable modem from ntl with model number 08004eu...
he phoned ntl and they told him ntl uses dynamic IP so he just needs to wait... well, he waited for days now...(about 2 or 3 days), even shuted down his modem for 10 hours...never got a new IP...He uses a Mac with osx 10.1.5

so simple question...does anyone here have a idea how to force the DHCP server to get him a new IP?...should he just wait longer?
i tried renew the dhcp lease...but that got him the same ip..

i searched the forum and the internet, but couldnt find anything usefull...
(btw ...he seems be directly connected to the modem, and the mac has been assigned his public IP...no LAN or other things there)

thanks to everyone who can help ;)

Change the mac address of the Ethernet card. That will force a new ip. There is some information HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address)

Mac OS X

Under Mac OS X (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X), the MAC address can be altered in a fashion similar to the Linux and FreeBSD methods:
ifconfig en0 lladdr 02:01:02:03:04:05 or
ifconfig en0 ether 02:01:02:03:04:05 This must be done as the superuser and only works for the computer's ethernet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet) card. Instructions on spoofing AirPort (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirPort) Extreme (2.0) cards are available here (http://www.suspekt.org/). There are not, as of yet, any known ways to spoof original AirPort (1.0) cards.

You'll need to power down and restart the cable modem after changing the MAC address or nothing will work.
