I can't see Man U improving on last season, our rivals have strengthened their squads, and ours appears to be weakened. I realise there are players coming back from long term absences, but at the moment, I forsee a less than impressive season ahead. :erm:

No I don't. I really do think Carrick is worth that. Great engine, gets stuck in and passes the ball extremely well.

Damien
31-07-2006, 00:45
15 - 17 million? Chel$ea could outbuy that, They properly go around refering to each other by their transfer price.

Seriously though, United spent a lot of money but they did better before then. I.E They did not buy their success. Arsenal spend so little on players so we did not buy success.

Chel$ea really did buy their way to the title. What good can this be doing to the game. Money was in it before of course, but this really is a direct link between money spent and points gained

You will see Kronas...

"When you're training with world-class players every day, you learn from them. If you have got the capabilities - which Michael certainly has - then you adapt and lift your level.

Lampard Sr is in no doubt that United are buying a top class talent, one that he feels Sir Alex will mould to fit in with United's plans.

I think even the retailers play along with the banter and wind up.

My mate went out in a shop in South Wales today to buy the new Arsenal shirt and after 10 mins of searching had to eat humble pie and ask the shop assistant where they were.

The shop assistant marched him over to the correct hanger and said there you go the Arsenal shirts are at the back behind the Chelsea shirts.

The stadium is actually so close to the new stadium. When you get out of Arsenal tube, its about the same distance in the oppersite direction to highbury. Theres a big green building, which threw me at first until I saw it was just the front, if you go up the big stairs over the bridge you arrive at the massive stadium :Yikes::tu:

Not really. We offered more than Newcastle did, so did Spurs, but Chelsea, as usual won't sell to an immediate rival (something that Newcastle aren't).

They would have sold him to you, he chose Newcastle, I think that is one of the reasons why Chelsea intimidate clubs because they will sell to rivals, their constructive arrogance sets them a part from most clubs, it reminds me of the Liverpool sides 20- 30 years ago.

I don't doubt what you are saying, I just remember Duff himself saying he 'turned down' several clubs to go to Newcastle, admittedly he didn't say who they were, could have been Sheff Utd and Watford for all we know ;)

Leeds owner Ken Bates has reported his former club Chelsea to the Football Association, Premier League and Fifa over three alleged illegal approaches.

He said: "Because of the financial strength of Chelsea's owner Roman Abramovich, financial punishments will make no difference to the club at all. "We feel deduction of points, banning of registration of new players and suspension from European competition would be more appropriate.

The new owner Randy Lerner

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_LernerFantastic news, ain't it? This is just what the club needed. None of the other groups interested in buying the club seemed serious... Michael Neville's offer might have been OK, but I always doubted whether he'd have any cash to splash for buying more players after forking out on the club. He seemed to be wanting to own the club because he is a Villa fan, but that it wouldn't really be in the club's or the fans' best interests.

Anyway, hopefully the shareholders will all agree Lerner is the best way to go on this one, and he'll be in charge shortly.

Villa have the potential to be a real big player in the Premiership. They've got a large fan base in an area where there's not any other comparably-sized teams (Leicester & Coventry are good but still not as good as Villa ;) ), with a decent ground... admittedly not as good as Arsenal's new place, or even Old Trafford, but it's still not a bad ground :) The one thing they always lacked under Ellis was the cash to build a decent squad. Hopefully now with Lerner running the ship and with O'Neill at the helm, things will improve... although they couldn't really have gotten any worse than the past few seasons.

There have been so called financial schemes in the past, that have the intention of bringing in extra revenue. I seem to remember one such "bond" scheme at upton park, which fell flat on it's face. ;)

Tbh that didn't put the club in debt, it was just a crude way to extract every last penny from the fans, I remember being part of the demonstrations, only to go home to find my mother had bought one :dozey:  :D

after seeing it on match of the day, i'm a little confused:

1. how does graham poll get to ref matches these days anyway?
and
2. after hearing rob styles's comments on the "penalty", i swear juve got relegated, got points deducted, lost extremely talented players(and zlatan), lost their reputation, lost the chance to bring more revenue into the club(etc. etc. etc.) for bringing in officials they wanted for matches. liverpool were probably smarter in how they managed it tho...

yes, it's mindless ranting :) (except for the zlatan comment) but it's refs like that idiot styles that ruin some good games

I actually don't care about the result though I watched the match. Top priority has to be promotion, if less games from no cup runs lessens the tiredness of the squad, long term that has to be more important.

We already have Tyson out for 4 months, it's best we stick to the league routine, and avoid more key players out.

At the end of the day we will not win the League Cup, we do have a chance of going up, it's a case of priorities and the cups have to be low down in that.

Not a bad start at all - as you say, it was a great result against Arsenal. From the sound of it, it really shouldn't have been a penalty for our first goal last night, but sometimes it all turns on a single piece of luck. Our main problem last year was not beating the teams below us (although, by the end of the season, there weren't that many of them :disturbd: ), so it shows that we've at least turned a small corner :)

we spend 18M on Carrick.. still paying over the odds for players even though Kenyon has gone

we were going to spend over 10m on Hargreaves :Yikes:

yes even though we need a striker as we only have two and Saha is bound to get injured soon and Rooney will prob get another ban at some point we won't buy Teves or Torres

Teves has even alked out of his club as we can get him dirt cheap yes we won't go in for him.. could be another target going away.. would rather have him than Treveguet

Tevez and Torres are to similar to Rooney imo, as for paying over the odds Senna is just as capable as Hargreaves yet cost's 10 million less, I saw an article on Saturday I believe, that said the new sponsors were putting pressure on United to buy British players, I am not sure how much truth there is to that and I can't remember where I saw it. that was in the sun.. saying said the United move is off now.. not too sure about him either though.. he's 30 and in 10 seasons one was good all the others weren't so more like a one season wonder

Saha will only get 20 goals if he is lucky, and plays the whole season, which i doubt

Rooney will get 20 odd but will get frustrated being relied on for all the goals and prob get sent off at some point

Ole just isn't the same player since the injury and don't think he will get more than 10.. if that.

Funnily enough I thought I was stating fact when I said that the Welsh players were on the whole of Championship standard.

As for claiming he was England's best player during the World Cup I doubt that is an honour any of the squad want and besides it is better to base players ability over time rather than on half a dozen games, from what the footballing public have so far seen very few would try to justify his talent as worth between 13- 17 million, even in Germany it has been reported that he is seen as a good squad player, are British teams in the habit of paying this much for someone seen as a squad player?

I just hope the FA do more, like an eight months ban plus a hefty fine.

But then I suppose if it was the club from across the town, it would be an eight months ban plus a hefty fine.

It will be interesting to see what the FA will impose upon Thatcher.

Sky Sports were reporting last week that Smith managed 60-odd minutes of a reserve game, so I don't think that he's that far from a return, which should be pretty good news for Man U fans :)

Talk about a shock!!!

Hammers to net Tevez & Mascherano
Argentina striker Carlos Tevez says he and team-mate Javier Mascherano have agreed to sign for West Ham.
The World Cup duo, who both play for Corinthians in Brazil, are set to move to Upton Park on a year-long loan.

Tevez, 22, claims on his website he and Mascherano, 22, have signed contracts with West Ham despite being linked with moves to Manchester United and Arsenal.

The Hammers are thought to have struck a deal with Media Sports Investments, who own the rights to the two players.

Its only a season loan, could be handy seeing how they handle the prem. Or of course it could be a ploy to get Utd/Arsenal bidding.

Apparently it is quite common for individuals to own players contracts rather than clubs in South America . I don't really know how it works but I suspect it has something to do with clubs trying to finance debts without selling their best players and it has caused problems in the past with transfers

HOLY ****ING ****!! Its not a loan...

West Ham United are delighted to announce the double signing of Argentinian World Cup stars Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano from Brazilian club Corinthians.

The pair have been signed for an undisclosed fee and put pen to paper on permanent contracts with the Club this afternoon. All other aspects of the transfers will remain confidential and undisclosed.

The transfers represent a massive coup for the Hammers, who have beaten off some of Europe's biggest clubs to secure the services of the duo - both of whom played a key role for Argentina as they reached the World Cup quarter-finals in Germany this summer before losing to the hosts in a penalty shoot-out.

This is the deal according to the Telegraph...

All that West Ham would say is that the deal for both players is permanent, although it is understood that the package could eventually cost them an eye-watering £60 million.

That is highly unlikely as, in return for paying a small fee for the players and covering their wages now, West Ham have agreed to hefty sell-on clauses in the event of one of the bigger clubs in the Premiership, or on the continent, making a bid. It is believed that if a £30 million bid for either is tabled, then West Ham must sell or pay Corinthians the same amount to keep them.

In return, West Ham will also get a small percentage of any sell-on fee. Corinthians are also understood to have negotiated an option to buy them back at the same price West Ham have paid.

Apparently we only paid a million for them, personally I think there is more to this, there is talk of them being part of a £132 million take over by the MSI group, which imo would be bad for the club, last year when they tried it was reported that they wanted to turn the club into a feeder for clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea.

The more we make a point about this stuff the more people in England can see why we have a gripe with the "British" media and why some of us feel that the "UK" is nothing worth bothering about.

That wasnt my point, i was refering to the BBC website, however it raises another point, the BBC has regional variations like BBC Wales, Scotland, Ireleand etc.

So why are the regional games not shown on the regional channels?

The fact is people in England winge about how people from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France, Holland, Germany etc. etc. dont like them, and then when you tell them why they act like pedantic and try to laugh at you.

Its a shame really as it can be fixed with a simple change in attitude but some people just dont care so the resentment continues to build.

Nice try.

Brazil v Argentina being on telly is not what im here to complain about, neither is England being on telly something im complaining about, im complaining about regional representations of teams on television and giving those teams the coverage they deserve without bias to one particular team just because the corporation that shows them and reports on them is mainly based in and run by the English.

They seem to have forgot the word British appears in BBC yet do their best to defend "Britain" whenever it suits them too.

Its hypocracy.
