Repeat Calling...

For the last few weeks, on and off, i have been having phone calls, but there is just a dailling tone when i answer the phone, but when i do the 1471, it is the number of the last person who has called me during that day/night, ie; i got a call last night at 11-30PM, on the 1471, it was my mate's number whom had rang me at 5PM!, has anyone else had this problem?:Yikes:

When you do 1471 does it still say the last time they phoned, or does it say the new time? It could be some faulty/crossed wiring somewhere.

Do you have ntl voicemail on your line?

No, it says *telephone number blah blah blah, called today at 5pm* even though it was 11-30PM, this has happened a few times, i don't have the voice mail or anything, mmmm, strange eh? maybe, a fault on the line, i will ring them on monday and ask them to do a line check.

Does it ring like normal or is it just like a quick ring?

Yes, it rings as normal, then the answering machine kicks in, but it's one of them, where i can't hear the caller leaving the message, until i play it back. it's as though someone has hung up when the machine comes on.

That's Bizarre. Does sound like Wires Crossed somewhere

You may find that someone is trying to fax to your number.

If somebody calls you and witholds their number, does that register on the 1471?

I'm just wondering if these are "dead calls" from a call centre somewhere - basically, the call centre software pre-dials customers that it thinks the CSR wants to speak to. A full explanation can be found here: http://privatecitizen.com/predictive.htm

Calls where they withold their number to register on 1471 as an Unknown Number

I have ntl phone , and this week i have been getting calls and when i answer the phone there is no one there and then i get the dialing tone after about 30 secs. When i dial 1471 i get given a number which starts 08000 but when i ring it all i get is unable to connect you. Last week the same thing happend and when i tried ringing back was told number unknown which i found strange as it rang me. Also on occasions i get the number was withheld .
