Some good news for 1mb users.

I was talking to one of the NTL customer service dudes earlier and he informed me that all 1mb users are being upgraded to 2mb free of charge. This is to happen in the last quarter of this year.

Anyone else heard this?

I'm on 1 meg, but I've never been keen on going to 2 meg because ntl start imposing download limits. Will this be an upgrade without strings attached?

That sounds improbable. What is your evidence?

Well, that's convincing. When did this happen? My update file reference is the same as yours (though it has a .cpr suffix) but I'm still definitely on 1MB (Norwich based - and we're usually the last to know!).

I hope that this is correct as 2mb was just right for me. I only came down to 1mb to save a bit of money.

Wow - when did that happen?

But they no longer offer 2 meg - only 1, 4 and 10 meg. I think I'll wait and see if I get a free upgrade as a Christmas present.:rudo:

will be great to get my speed doubled, now 10mbit+ is around 1mbit is feeling a bit long in the tooth

Any idea how they will tackle the pace set-top-box problem? (would customers have to pay for a replacement)

btw Gooch it was reported on www.ispreview.co.uk

If i remember correctly 1mb and 2mb(now 4mb) have been unlimited since January 2006 and 10mb went unlimited a month or so ago. :tu:

I'm expecting 1mb to be upgraded to 2mb eventually seeing Telewest only offer 2,4 and 10mb tiers.

I believe they will install a modem for you but unsure whether they will charge you for it. If they do try, just threaten to quit and see if they wave the charge.

Im with NTL 1mb Broadband so I will get upgraded :D That means ill get .. 250kB/s download speed, but will the upload speed still be 12kB/s maximum or does that increase with 2mb?

The upload will likely be the same as it always was for the old 2mb tier, which is 200K/s (around 25kb/s).

So does that mean that 2mb will be 250kB/s download and 25kB/s upload?

If they made it the same as the old 2mb tier then yes. :)

Well thats not bad then. If its a free upgrade, and its going to download my download and upload speed from what is is just now (125 and 12) then I supose thats a decent thing.

Have you powered off your modem yet? Not everyone has the upgrade yet it's just a case of waiting.

Make sure you get a modem installed as the Samsung can't do 10mbit. Modems are way better.
