Like treacle here in Stoke (which I believe is offshoot of Manchester).

Maybe the cables have melted in the heat ;)

I'm getting pretty much 10mbit on the speed test from this site! but newshosting is useless.

[edit]

I fixed my problem by changing from port from 9000 - 8000 for Newshosting, speeds are alot better but very up and down.

Same in York, I'm using a Leeds proxy server and I'm getting speeds that are around 200 kbph.

I said this in a different forum but I think it bares repeating, I have 2 months left of free BB as compensation for the "appalling service" I have received (NTL's words) and then I'm leaving. I had this problem last week and before that too. No doubt it will happen again once they get this fixed.

Like many people, I've just given up the struggle with NTL now. I was given 3 months free BB but I don't want freebies, I want simple reliability. When the 2 remaining months are up, I'm gone, probably to Pipex.

Spent 30 minutes with an NTL tech going through the testing this morning. I had just had a wireless router go tits up and thought that was the cause. Finally used a cable direct to the modem and got online but at 239k download and 67.3 up! The tech finnaly took the modem off the server and re-installed. He then told me to wait 2 hours and test again. It was still slow. Called again and was told their system was down and to call back in another 2 hours. Have just check and it is now 1253 and 465!`That on a 10meg setup! Now they must have known something was occouring, why not just tell me!

Still low here in Lincoln, 842/442 (had just over 1.3 meg an hour ago!). Just called NTL and there is a problem that came to their notice early this morning when people started to call the help line. They are working on it and the promise to me was that the situation would be resolved by 4.00pm today (17th).
