Can somebody PLEASE tell me whats going wrong with my xbox live and internet, i use USB for PC and Ethernet for my xbox 360's live.

(Ive tried Cross-overs, non-cross-overs with direct connection - and theres me thinking its the 8 cables that i boughts bought)

When im on the internet, it will be fine, fast and good quality line.... But then nooooo, it just stops DEAD. Doesnt even load google. This is just USB, PWR and the coaxol lead in <---- Somehow this happens randomly.

Now to xbox live..... It works beautifully, until im playing my game (call of duty 2) and it says connection interputed, Server disconnect (then i punch the wall and yell loads of names at Ntl) I go to test connection, says its connected but it cant find the ip, ive tried manual and automatic it does the same thing evertime. I do power cycle the modem before changing the cables around btw. What is Ntls problem with consistansy. 1 minute its the best ive had - next minute its not worth a ****.

HELP

OMMMMGGGGG, it actually stopped working before i could post this... I had to copy it and then paste it later for when it was working..... IM SO CLOSE TO MOVING TO BULLDOG.

Sounds like your Modem could be faulty..

What model of modem do you have. ?

Can you confirm please that when you swap from the PC to X-Box or vice versa, that you completely unplug the cable from the device you are not using and reboot the modem?

It looks like the Upstrem levels are to high if the connection keeps dropping. Do the lights stay on the modem when the connection is lost or do they start flashing continously until the connection comes back on .

I have a Ntl 250 , Ive had about 3-4 different modems installed already from the Ntl people. Yes - I unpower the modem, unplug the USB, put in the ethernet, wait some time then power it back and then turn my xbox on after the lights have stable light. I dunno about the upstream ?! When the connection goes the USB/PWR light stays on but one of the others does flash but only sometimes.

Any help apreciated.

I live in london and its 2 mb/sec if that will help somehow.

ok it done it again and the USB, PWR and SYNC lights were fully lit and the rest were off.

If i was you i'd buy a Router (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0002LHXB6/026-1761865-5136459?v=glance&n=560798) and stop using USB. In the long run it'll be easier and it might just help with your problem.

You can check your modem levels from http://192.168.100.1/ username and password both root.

Why dont you try either getting a router or trying ICS.
I was using the latter until i got the former and both worked fine.

Prophet21

how would a router help ? whats ICS ?

SnoopZ

With a router you can use the computer and xbox live at the same time both on ethernet and not on this USB cr*p. No messing about at all when it's setup.

Prophet21

but how will a router stop the connection problems - how do i stop the uploads from bursting ?

Prophet21

im gonna really have to change, theres obviously problems which i cant correct. I have tried everything; ????? Or have i.... i shouldnt NEED a router.

It's worth getting a router just to stop using USB, whether it'll fix your problem who knows. You will be more secure anyway with a router and no messing about with cross overs etc.

You still haven't posted your connection levels so the experts here can see if something is wrong with them. :)

You can check your modem levels from http://192.168.100.1/ username and password both root.

Quam256

Next time connection fails,go into internet explorer and type in http://192.168.100.1/ (http://192.168.100.1/) username and password both root.
If you can get into the modem config pages and you can renew the page the connection between your PC and the modem is ok .
Next close explorer goto start >run > "cmd">"tracert www.bbc.co.uk (http://www.bbc.co.uk)" >. See how far it goes before it times out.
send us the results .:D

it doesnt let me go on it when it goes down :( the modem gets VERY hot all the time for some reason.

Prophet21
22-07-2006, 17:55
i think it only stopped working because it overheated.... its not overheating now for some weird reason.... it may or been i virus, or ntl has changed something from there servers.

i dunno but for now - its fixed. if it stops again ill reply back.

my powered speakers used to overheat at the same time as the modem so it might of been a power issue aswell... nobody knows lol.

hi,
i understand that u have problems using the xbox and internet at the same time...I'd like to inform you that ntl:telewest has stopped providing dual ip adresses to customers so u cannot use both services at the same time.

Your correct in what you say but you just use a router now and it won't cost you anything. :)

I can't see you saying you have contacted NTL to see what they can do? If you haven't done that yet then these problems are unlikely to go away.....

i have contacted them.... by phone, everytime they have said its probly a faulty modem and they sent a person to my house they installed a new modem, it worked for a day or 2 without problems and then it came back to how it was before.
