They load OK for me.

Try changing your proxy.

changing my proxy aint really an option as i have a windows pc networked and a mac networked and it's not my network as why would some sites load slower than others or time out....
all happened in the last couple of days as well. look at the slowness

Sun, 02 Jul 2006 20:59:38 GMT

1st 512K took 4652 ms = 110.1 KB/sec, approx 907 Kbps, 0.89 Mbps

It is probably a problem with Proxies. You need to re-set the proxies on both the PC and the Mac.

well i got a PACE STB... looks like ntl have no choice but to give me a cable modem. I have 2 cable filters on my STB plus they fixed it at the green box and all my wireing conections etc are replaced....

Stuart

Which model Pace? The 1000 and 2000 series can only do 1 to 1.5 meg anyway.

yer i have an older STB but ntl refuse to replace.
just tried a different proxy
bmly-cache-10.server.ntli.net
1st 512K took 14308 ms = 35.8 KB/sec, approx 295 Kbps, 0.29 Mbps
2nd 512K took 11453 ms = 44.7 KB/sec, approx 368 Kbps, 0.36 Mbps
3rd 512K took 9088 ms = 56.3 KB/sec, approx 464 Kbps, 0.45 Mbps
4th 512K took 7896 ms = 64.8 KB/sec, approx 534 Kbps, 0.52 Mbps

bmly-cache-4.server.ntli.net
Lets just say ok slowwwwwwww

for a different area test
oxfd-cache-1.server.ntli.net
1st 512K took 6048 ms = 84.7 KB/sec, approx 698 Kbps, 0.68 Mbps
2nd 512K took 5922 ms = 86.5 KB/sec, approx 713 Kbps, 0.7 Mbps
3rd 512K took 14649 ms = 35 KB/sec, approx 288 Kbps, 0.28 Mbps
4th 512K took 1147 ms = 446.4 KB/sec, approx 3678 Kbps, 3.59 Mbps

now something is not right here......

Edit rebooted STB now i get a steady 100kb downlaod from speed test
same in bromley
1st 512K took 4362 ms = 117.4 KB/sec, approx 967 Kbps, 0.94 Mbps
2nd 512K took 4368 ms = 117.2 KB/sec, approx 966 Kbps, 0.94 Mbps
3rd 512K took 4546 ms = 112.6 KB/sec, approx 928 Kbps, 0.91 Mbps
4th 512K took 4363 ms = 117.4 KB/sec, approx 967 Kbps, 0.94 Mbps

I think it has to be something else other than proxies, I notice on the ntl sever status page the work that they were meant to be finished doing last week is still not finished...... hmmmmmmmmm

Oh and before you lot even say it. No its not my network, as i just hardwired my main pc direct into the ntl STB and not through router and still same speeds, even after rebooting stb with it connected to pc

Bromley, BR2

My wife's been complaining about the speed of the internet for about a month and has just got me to come up and try it - hotmail.com is unuseable at the moment, but this forum is lightning fast.
I'll try swapping proxies, but that doesn't sound like a proper solution - what speed test are you using? I'll try it here over the next week, might try and automate it so it can run while I'm in work as well. Then I can give the logs to NTL and they can explain what the problem is (if they can be bothered to keep my custom).

I can noe confirm that a friend in BR6 is having exactly the same problem. Started about 4 weeks ago.

According to NTL tech support the problem, and I'm quoting "has been caused by over-subscription to the service"

I too have been having this problem (BR3) . Just rebooted my modem, got the 2mg to 4 mg upgrade and it seems to have solved slow loading pages.

Mine is 10Mb and rebooting did not solve the problem. I tried waiting 1 minute, 5 minutes and 2 hours. No diff.

The transparent proxy server I'm automatically assigned keeps changing, it's currently 80.1.224.14

I think the problem is worse during the day. Probably the proxies get overloaded.

well looks like im phoning them as well. This is just anoying. Pings on games are crap

---------- Post added at 12:51 ---------- Previous post was at 11:33 ----------

well i phoned tech support, engie comming out on thursday. Was told to phone customer services, they want to CHARGE me £50 to have my internet seperated from the STB........ Now is that right or what? i had so many god dam issues with this STB and it's ****ing me right off.

I noticed that as well last night. I can't see why swapping would cause the problem unless the swapping is happening because the proxies are overloaded??

@neoapple: I'd hold out on that - if I want to upgrade to a separate cable modem & STB, so I get the full 10M service, I expect to pay the £50 (though I still think it's a sh*tty idea & way too much cost). If NTL are saying they want to separate your ethernet from the STB, they should waive the cost & absorb it themselves.

PS: As in my previous post - what speedtest software are you using?

neoapple

i used the speed test here.
Im so dam anoyed with NTL. It went down again today as well! They keep saying it's fixed but it dam well is never fixed!

Im paying money and what do i get?
Tech support blames my router but i know for a fact it's not that
Tech support cant find half of the STB downtime logs, yet i know for a fact that when middle green light flashes it means BB is down!.... hmm go figure NTL
Tech support have so far installed 2 signal filters, given me new cables, new connections, and checked street box YET my issue is not fixed.....
Im about to go crazy here! Even my TV freezes up. Sometimes i need to reboot STB 2 or more times to get internet back and TV.
Thats leaving STB off for 2 mins then turning it back on.

Hell the dam thing rebooted it's self at about 9:30 PM when i was recording walking with the dead...... Do i need to call an exorsist? Local priest?
Sometimes can never find my subscribed channels. Locks up on channel changing then decides to change when it feels like it.

Surely they should give you a SACM if it solves the problem then it would be cheaper for them than having to send out an engineer every few days

Yup, mine's dog slow too. 10Mb running at less than 1Meg..... Obviously a major issue somewhere which I guess they should know about, I can't be arsed to sit on their support line for half the day though, only to be told to 'reboot the box'...

Bring back my good old 3Mb - never a problem, I didn't want the upgrade!

why not downgrade to the 4mbit package then? It should be faster than your 3mbit was and cheaper to!
