Going to give NTL 4MB one more week, I was on the 1mb service and at the week end the only time I get to play game it was fine. Now that three weekends in a row Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢ve been let down with terrible pings. I was getting in the low 20ââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s with 1MB.

So if itââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s the same next weekend, Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢ll look into getting the BT line upstairs and getting rid of the other NTL phone and TV.

Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢m the last guy to go complain but this has been really annoying me!!!!!!!!!!!

What was the point of this upgrade for me as I canââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t play my games.

Remember it is "UP TO" 4Mbps. You cannot expect it 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Remember you were paying for 2Mbps, that extra 2Mbps is free. Its like going to the pub and sometimes getting that little extra in your glass. Sometimes you get it, sometimes you dont. ;)

true......but id rather be on a solid 2mbit service (like i was on) rather than a flakey 0.5-4mbit depending on the time of the day, but fair dos i guess

What model of modem do you have? Is it a wired version from you STB or a 'Standalone' modem? If it is a 'Standalone' check the model type eg "ntl home 120". If it is not a 200 or 250, could be the modem having problems dealing with the new QAM upgrades....

I agree -

When you get on a train, you want to know what time you will arrive. If the train arrives early once in a while, that's good. But if you're led to believe that the journey is faster than it normally is, then that is unacceptable. Especially if you have paid extra for the "fast" service.

I think a lot of this boils down to what you want from your internet service. Now im no 'online gamer' so to me ping times really dont matter, what I need is a sold service during office hours - which for the most part (for me) NTL can and do deliver. Don't get me wrong they have given me more trouble and down times than any of my previous ADSL providers, but like I said, for the most part they are pretty much ok.

Im sure there is a list compiled of the 'best' providers for online gaming?

I would say i was really happy with my 1MB service, games ran fine and i only download the odd song. But since i went on the 4MB the downloadings been great, it looks great speed wise from the tests but pings are one minute ok then off the scale.

to me at the weekend when i get time i want a game of BF2 etc and just now i cant say i'll get to do that.
