Just tried installing NTL on a friend's PC and nothing happening. Did all the reboots etc before calling tech support and they got me to do the reboots etc and then she told me she had just checked and the registration servers were not working and try again in 30 minutes.

Well, first tech-support should have known this becuase there is no point rebooting stuff and keeping me on the phone if registration is not working, and secondly the status page should mention this as I did look this up when it failed the first time.

Anyone know what is going on and when it is going to work again?

I did ring the number - it said nothing.

Also I just did a Google search for manual registration and found out the info posted above, but I also note that the IP address provided by the modem is 192.168.100.11, and that appears to mean the cable modem is not connecting to the ntl network so I would not be able to do manual registration anyway.

The ntl250 modem ready light flashes - does this mean I need to call out an engineer? But why did the tech support person not check this information with me?

I did tell her that the "ready" light was flashing

you wont get jack **it unless the snyc ready light is locked on if you call tec support again and there is no issue at there end they will book a tec to visit.

Hang on if the ready light was always flashing that means that the install has never worked, the modem has never actually been online.

Again tech support should have easily been able to check if the modem was connected to the ntl network, however it appears that if you speak to Bangalore they have no access to the diagnostics suites, and are pretty much a waste of time. That or they just don't bother using them which is even worse in a way.

I now have an engineer coming out tomorrow. That will make it the fourth visit by the ntl installers in two weeks because the first team could not lay the cable properly...
