AMD's are meant to tolerate a bit more heat than Intel processors so that's not too bad in this very hot weather. . Just try to not go over 60.
You could always add another fan in your machine.

Have you not got a air con unit?
Not at the moment. I really need to buy one to reduce the temp in here. Just got 2 fans at the moment blowing into the room.
For anyone that is considering a loft conversion, they get blooming hot in the summer.

Take the side off your case dude will maike a huge difference. Then if no better point a small room fan in there that will sort it out. While your in there check for dust build up on cpu heatsink. If you know what your doing remove heatsink clean up carefully cpu and heat sink base and add a pea sized amount of silver based good quality thermal compound. The old thoroughbred chips run rediculasly hot in high latent temperatures as Halcyon said it should be ok but rising and lowering of temps by large amounts regularly reduces the life of materials :)

My room is half underground as the house is on a slope so the bed side of the room wall is technically below ground. I think that helpskeep things cooler.

Have a netting on the windows to stop the nasty stuff getting in and this keeps it at a comfortable 21-24. Under normal conditions its 18-21 which is fine for me.

I'm guessing your thermometer is in direct sunlight ... if it was really that hot, you wouldn't even have been able to go in there to read the temperature. Death Valley, California, is the hottest place on Earth and the hottest it has ever been is 56.7. ;)

Its quite surprising how hot it can get under PVC rooves in conservatories too actually.

Never been in a sauna, Chris? They are typically 90 - 110C.

I can quite believe a conservatory can reach 57C. It's the greenhouse effect. Ours gets hot enough to melt candles.

Halcyon

a sauna is the place for experimenting with the relationship between heat & humidity.

an hot dry sauna doesn't feel so hot while you can sweat & the sweat can evaporate, which cools you...

an hot wet sauna feels hot, because even if you do sweat, it cannot evaporate & doesn't cool you...

I'm guessing your thermometer is in direct sunlight ... if it was really that hot, you wouldn't even have been able to go in there to read the temperature. Death Valley, California, is the hottest place on Earth and the hottest it has ever been is 56.7. ;)

http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2000/MichaelLevin.shtml

To get a meaningful reading from your thermometer you need to put it somewhere the sun cannot shine directly onto it.

Are you telling me to stick my thermometer where the sun doesn`t shine!!!!!!!!!!! ??? :D I didn`t say i went into the conservatory, i looked through the door to where the thermometer was on the shelf. The door was hot to the touch. Ok.:)
I`ve actually got into a customers car at work and the ambient temp has been 37 degrees inside.!! ok, a black car with black leather interior but it was still very hot sitting in there.

a sauna is the place for experimenting with the relationship between heat & humidity.

an hot dry sauna doesn't feel so hot while you can sweat & the sweat can evaporate, which cools you...

an hot wet sauna feels hot, because even if you do sweat, it cannot evaporate & doesn't cool you...

- try the tropical dome at the Eden Centre :)

Ok, I guess I'll give it a go maybe one day...to atleast see what it is like.
Thanks for the info on them. :tu:

A tip for those who are at home and have the sun beating through a window and making ing flaming hot.

Go to a shop like halfords and buy some of the sun blinds for card (the ones with the foil on) and stick in the offendind window.

Halcyon
14-06-2006, 23:04
Yeah I do that. Always keep the blinds down when its too sunny.
Otherwise it get's way too hot and I dont want the sun rays beaming down on my PC either as seeing the screen is impossible.

So, how we all coping with the heat? I'm melting - just can't get cool enough. The thunderstorm last night was lovely - nice cool breeze and awesome light show. It's been mad at work - servers and switches overheating all over the country.

Currently drinking an iced coke - with a straw. Effort of lifting the can is too much :D

Frankly, I'm not coping at all - we were on holiday last week, so could just take it easy as the temperature increased. Back at work today, and I nearly died, it was so hot. At least the beer was chilling in my fridge all day :)

Well now..an inner ear infection coupled with the hottest day of the year...how do you think I'm coping? :(

I'm doing as little as I can get away with is the truth.

I'm going to take the fan to bed with me.Hubby can sleep on his own. ;)

Could do with a couple of lads with big leaves, one each side of the bed, Coggy :D

We've air con at work - 21 degrees C. The air con engineers were in fitting more units - had to briefly turn it all off. It's a wonder they made it out alive :p: Doesn't half hit you when you leave though - whooosh, wall of heat.

We are at one of the highest points, around here, and close to a major river estuary - those breezes are so welcome, we are lucky - at home :)

room temp = 25°C

- at work we are facing the river, which is good, but the sun beats through the windows, so the blinds have to go up ;)

I wish I could have taken the day off.

Thunderstorms are predicted mid-week so hopefully it will cool the place down a little.

Some of the smells on Grimsby Docks, where I work, have been 'interesting' , lately, with the warm weather :)

- especially cycling past the wastewater pumping station ;)

Having just returned from there I can confirm it does get warm (114degF when I passed through !! ). So I'm well acclimatised
