View Full Version : Static shocks
Anyone got any tips for avoiding static shocks. I get them at the supermarket, in the car, at home and sometimes when i shake hands with other people.
It has become a major issue, as it tends to hurt more everytime. :(

I tend to find that if I hold on to the metal of the car before I put my foot on the ground, I will not get a shock.

Nylon knickers are the problem.
(Escapee puts on tin hat)
I used too have the same problem all the time.
Tip: When you climb out of the car, grab the door frame first, then put your feet on the ground and get out of the car. You will have earthed the static already through your feet.
Since adopting this tactic I've never experienced shocks since (unless I forget)

Alternatively, just touch the first person you see after getting out of the car - guaranteed fun, and a top class way of meeting new people ;)

I used to hate this when I worked selling cars. I just put up with it and got used to putting the full palm of my hand on the car body as I got out as it was quite uncomfortable if my elbow caught it and I'd not been earthed.

I find that if you tap the object that gives you the shocks with the back of your hand first it hurts a lot less.
