Or meant to be??

I'm just sat here revising for exams, and wondering if anyone else is in the same situation??

If you are, has this recent spate of good weather stopped you completely?

(I really need to be revising :disturbd:)

First year i haven't in a long time. Good weather is always a distraction. Solution: revise outside.

I'm meant to be enjoying the sun i guess.

I have told a few people off for being on MSNM and the likes, and maanged to motivate someone i really like to work, which went well. I think they have one of thier exams today which i got them to write note cards on.

Solution is... Break it down into small chunks, then have a rest every 20mins or so, then start over. works like a treat for many people i know :)

Well I got my notes out for 1 of my units today, and its seriously a block of paper about 5cm thick :|

Wow, I had about 5 lever arch files of final semester, third year uni notes.

And thats what I've got to look forward to :Yikes: Good luck, stop posting, get revising.

Get some chill out music and a cold drink (non-alcoholic!) relax a bit whilst reading and randomly test yourself about 2 things per page to make sure you're actually taking it in!

Are you doing A2s? They're easy.

Not if you've left all your revision to the last week :(

I'm doing a Maths past paper at the moment (or should be anyway). I hate revision! My first exam is on Thursday and I have 11 other exams in a three week period. I really should have started earlier. My own fault I guess.

Kliro

What've you chosen to do next year?

Macca371
05-06-2006, 17:14
I'm taking a gap year and working in Paris if all goes smoothly. Trouble is, I haven't found a job or accommodation yet (lol). Hopefully I'll go to Uni after that to do Economics. What about you?

Kliro
05-06-2006, 17:16
Hopefully straight to uni for geology - and if all goes well I get a kind of a gap year in the 3rd year where I study in America.

Its my motivation to keep going :D

There's a good gappers section on TSR if you know of it?

Yeah that site is my second home now lol

Geology sounds really good, I was considering going into paleontology

Yeah, I think I've got to choose between that sedimentolgy or volconology.

Should be pretty interesting anyways.

Good luck to all who are revising for exams at the moment. :tu:
I was going through the hectic schedule of exams last year and know how you feel.
It seems like forever but once it is over you can truly have a nice relaxing break.
It will be worth it in the end.

Those of you who are early/mid twenties and doing all this 'revision' stuff....

When are you going to leave school and get a damn job?

In fairness, I'm nearly 31, and I've had to do 2 exams this year that required revision.

Not that I actually did any, you understand, but I fluked 'em without it ;)

That's fine if you've just been studying in your spare time while holding down a job or other occupation (such as full time parenthood).

My mini-rant is aimed at those who stay at "school" as long as possible in order to delay entering the world of work and thus enjoy a good skive for as long as possible, paid for out of my taxes.

Kliro
06-06-2006, 21:22
Do you apply the same to doctors? architects?

Or people doing Phd's in order to further specialise in their work??

There aren't too many people who go to uni to 'skive'

Of course not. But look at the number of people aged 25 and above who have still not left uni, having done two and sometimes three pointless degrees such as Media Studies and similar rubbish.

These people should be told...ONE degree....any more and you either finance it yourself or else go to work for five years first.

It's all an excuse not to work for as long as possible.

Halcyon

Year one of Uni is normally the year you can have the most fun and mess around as they try to get everyone to the same level.
It's only in year 2 that you realise you have to work as the results start to count towards your grades.

Kliro
06-06-2006, 21:29
I don't think there's many??

I doubt there are many that can afford to do it anyway.

Well, in fairness, I did an HND in Business & Finance and, when I passed that, I moved onto a Degree in Combined Studies - however, I basically got fed up with being skint all the time, so dropped out of the degree, but I was nearly 22 by then.

Having said that, I was also working for the majority of the time that I was at college and, as a result of cramming in as many hours as possible, I was also paying tax so, using your argument, I was actually paying for my own education ;)

Druchii

Java, good lad!!

Nice choice of language i guess, preferring C# and the likes but, Java is cross-platfrom :) That's one advantage.

Good luck with it!

(ok, i know i could use the mono framework for C#... let's not go there though...)

Did just over a year of Java and Java related OO programming when I was at Uni and it drove me completly crazy.
Sitting through Java lectures on a Friday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm really did send you to sleep.

How the hell do you revise a programming language  Either can program in it, or you can't. Weird.

You do know that you're not normal :D Majority of people prefer Java because it's a refinement of C/C++ which I hate with a passion.

I think I revised maybe once or twice in my entire life - neither occasion helped any. The main problem is that I'm not an exam person - more suited to continuous assessment. I'm also very terse in my writing style, which doesn't work well in exams. I can remember at school - mock exams - and the fury of my English teacher because I wrote a one paragraph essay (should have been at least one side of A4). My English A-Level tutor said that I write one sentence where others would write a page. I failed English A-level, though I never had any intent of passing. My focus was my GNVQ, which I did pass.

Good luck with the exams!

Gah, I'm absolutely drained - had a 2 hour geology exam yesterday, had to come straight home to revise for two 90 min geography exams today :(

Good job I've only got general studies tomorrow (i.e. lie-in :))

Congratulation, Kliro - good luck on your results in mid-August.

My daughter has two more Politics exams (next Tue & Thu), then she is finished exams, hopefully off to Leicester in October.

Once again, well done and good luck.
