Hello guys. :)

The Mrs and I want to get an upgrade as we've just got the boring channels free. We went to Tescos to do our shopping one day and we seen a cheap Freeview box. I was quite tempted. So, I went home and I went onto the Freeview website and typed in my postcode and it said I can't get it. So, Does that mean even if I connect to an outside ariel it would not work? Because, I would love to get a freeview box soon.

:tu:

Thanks in advance.

Not sure what the Freeview coverage is like in Northern Ireland unfortunately. Is there any at all?

Yes there is. My sister has got one in her house which is like 30mins from my house.

Anyways, So, There's no point in me buying a Freeview box? :erm:

Well, why not borrow your sister's and try it. Really in most areas you need a masthead amp with a new (high gain, wideband) aerial anyway, so if your setup is relatively new if it's gonna work, it will. Plus retailers can be fussy about checking whether or not you can get it in your area, and if you can't getting a refund. Of course, if you can get a box for about £30 then that's small fry.

Ah, Thanks for that nffc :tu:

I'll ask her tomorrow if I can borrow it. I'll use it with an indoor and outdoor ariel :tu:

Thanks!

Borderline.Borderline? 67dBµV/m?! I wouldn't imagine that there would be any problem with an indoor aerial, let alone a standard outdoor aerial (yagi or log, either way).

I'd try your sister's first, OP, but it sounds to me like you'll be just fine. :)

Is it your local Tescos?

They'd be pretty dumb to sell Freeview boxes if most people buying can't receive the broadcasts .... ;)

Ask them what their returns policy is - you may be able to buy a box then return it if you can't get a good signal.

Yeah. I'll ask them if I can return it :tu:

Thanks!

Put it this way... the postcode checker, to this day, says my sister can not receive freeview... She watches it just fine...

She got it purely for E4 may I add... she likes her pop-idol...
