I'm looking for a small cheap dvd player to stick upstairs on top/next to a portable tv - so I can watch some stuff in bed - ideally it should be less than 40 quid - something that can sit vertically would be good.

I'm looking for something cheap and cheerful - and if possible the ability to play divx would be good.

This is one I'm thinking about : http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=251715

Anyone got anything better?

Edit : oh yeah, and I looked at the vertical one on scan, but can't find any proper details for it, such as size and so on

Not a vertical one, but I recently bought this (http://www.digico.co.uk/default.asp?Detail=Yes&ModelID=624) one. The picture is excellent for the price.

Saw the Tesco ones yesterday too. Very small boxes for about £17.99.
Never seen them in action, but I'm sure they will play DVD's adequately.

Yep, we bought one for work for about £20, the picture quality is very good and it's quite robust - we take it out and about to show training DVD's etc, no complaints so far.

Is it one of the alba ones? - on the whole I tend to avoid alba as I think they really are awful in general - usually even given the fact that they're really cheap , they're worse than that?

Alba are the same as goodmans, grundig etc.

I've never had a problem with their products :)
