Hi,

sorry if this is a FAQ.

I switched to 10 meg 2 days ago,

adsl speet test tells me that I am only getting:

Downstream 4,748.7 Kbps ( = 4.6 Mbps )
Upstream 480.2 Kbps ( = 0.5 Mbps )

I realise that its up to 10meg but this still seems a bit slow. Is there anything I can do? how do I check that I have the right firmware for 10 meg? Do I need to do this?

At this rate I would be better off switching back to 2 meg and waiting for the upgrade.

please can anyone help me?

Is this the adslguide.org.uk test or a US based one? I get 8Mbps down on the UK one.

What modem do you have - you cannot do anything about firmware yourself but there are known issues with certain variants.

Its possible you can tweak (or remove ol dial-up tweaks) from your PC TCP/IP settings - see the analyzer on http://www.speedguide.net.

But note of caution I have found that optimizing for fastest downloads seems to slow some other things down - maybe if a packet is lost there is a longer wait before a replacement is requested?

i get about 7meg in cardiff but thats due to my old cmx modem
speeds wil lvary on where you perform tests and where you download from

try this speed test instead which is better:-

I get around 6-7meg - never much higher.

I can get 9+meg of adslguide test but I think their bandwidth does get saturated as its used by a ton of people and their site is slow also.
