Can I install a new NTL 250 modem myself?

As I'm thinking that my download speeds arent up to par - so I'm thinking of complaining to NTL to get the funky new modem.. will they want to come out and install it for me? or do they just send u a new one?

If NTL wont supply me one, I could just buy one from eBay, unless you need to register it...

Also is there somewhere I can check my speed? as NTL's speedtest no longer works: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/testmyspeed/

One last thing, does the newer 250 modem use less power to the older 100/120 modems - as mine always seems to be a tad hot?

Cheers for any answers..

You could buy one on ebay, but you would be wasting your money! They need to be registered on the network and only ones supplied by NTL can be registered. (They are also probably illegal to sell as NTL retain ownership of their modems)
There is a speed test button in the bar at the top of this page.
No idea about power.

Don't buy one off Ebay as they are illegal
