Press release from ntl Telewest this morning states:-

All eyes on Big Brother 7
Around the clock coverage delivered to your desktop

ntl, Telewest and Virgin.net customers will be able to keep up with all the action from the Big Brother 7 house this summer, thanks to a deal signed with Channel 4 New Media this week.

It is the first content deal to span all three ntl owned ISPs since the cable company merged with Telewest earlier this year.

Over three million broadband customers will have access to daily news stories and video clip highlights from the house via the ntlworld.com, blueyonder.co.uk and Virgin.net websites. There will also be contestant biographies, photos, plus an exclusive column written by Derek Laud (from Big Brother 6).

ntl customers with a 4Mb or 10Mb connection will also have access to a free, live 24/7 feed from the house, as part of their broadband plus package - only otherwise available on the Channel 4 website for a fee of £7.99.

Philip Snalune, managing director consumer products at ntl, said: "Big Brother 7 promises to be one of the must-watch events of the summer and this exclusive deal means our customers will be able to get all the news and gossip from the house as soon as it breaks.

"It's the first time that we've run content across ntl, Telewest and Virgin.net sites and with over eight million combined unique users a month we'll be looking to capitalise on this going forward."

Paul Whitehead, head of new business development at Channel 4 New Media, said: "We're delighted to have signed this deal with ntl which supports our strategy of making Channel 4 content available to viewers across all multi-media platforms."

Big Brother 7 coverage will be available on: http://www.ntlworld.com/bigbrother, http://www.blueyonder.co.uk/bigbrother and http://www.virgin.net/bigbrother7 from Thursday 18 May.

There is no such thing as 4MB till June 1st when 2MB will be 4MB, so shouldn't 2MB users be able to watch this?

Clearly states that 2mb and 10mb get broadband plus free, it's been that way for a while, well before any talk of 4mb existed.

oh well, usual wait and see procedure from NTL, would be nice to get something from day 1 that actually worked even if it was free.

Jon T
19-05-2006, 15:21
Right, sorted it.

The broadband plus signup script must check if your eligible for the service via your PC's IP address, if you've got a router between the CM and your PC then your PC's not gonna have a WAN IP.

So temporarily connecting my PC direct to the CM signing up to BB+ and then putting the network back to normal seems to have done the trick.

So... To get this 'free' service you need to:

A) Be a 2mb or 10mb customer
B) Have registered for BB+
C) Be using the USB connection from your modem

Well, i guess they can give it for free as so few of they're customer base will be able to view it.

Well done chaps.

I made no mention of needing to be on a USB connection, all I said was that for me I had to by-pass the router inorder to register for BB+.

I was still using the ethernet connection on my modem when I bypassed the router, so the USB only thing isn't right.

I'm able to access BB+ stuff from behind my router, just couldn't register for it going through my router.

Yeah, make sure your cookies are set via firefox/IE for broadband plus [i.e so you get the broadband plus stuff rather than the sign up for it] and then
navigate to http://www.ntlworld.com/broadbandplus/auth/bigbrother/ews.php and the stream should open up in a stand alone media player.

Cookies are set so I automatically sign in to BB. Still the same. In Firefox the media window opens and sits there blank but saying 'Ready' at the bottom.
In IE the media player window opens and then IE crashes.
The web link takes me to a completely blank page.

I remember either the 1st or 2nd series of big brother when I had sky digi there was 2 cameras to choose from on the interactive, obviousy not every camera but allowed a choice since they tend to split into 2 groups almost every year I think that would be a good thing to do.

Can anyone explain to me exactly what the point is of having this live link into this pile of nonsense?
I've tuned in out of curiosity a few times, and all I ever hear is birds tweeting away.
My other half tells me its to do with legal stuff. Hardly much point in them broadcasting it if viewers can't hear any conversation.
Back to a real life for me...... :)

yeah I think its to do with keeping it for highlights. Weird tho since people watching the supposedbly live feed are more loyal and should be rewarded for it but then I can see why channel4 do it to make sure they tune in again for highlights.

I thought this too, but i was watching the live stream last night and it was showing everything when Mikey went to the Diary Room and was awarded Shabaz's lead position in the Brotherhood, even showing the plasma when he was in the Diary room and they never used to do that!

I don't understand why so may people watch that pile of horse poo - just what exactly is it that attracts so many people to watch a pile of braindead overgrown children living in a goldfish bowl to the tune of birds tweeting and aeroplanes flying buy?

The streaming ain't wotkingGive the various links a few clicks, it doesn't always seem to work first time. Also make sure you're using IE; I know it means getting virus' but it doesn't seem to work for me in Firefox.
