This is question which spans tv and pc so sorry if its in the wrong area.

I want to buy a video sender but remember the doubts about the IR problem?

question is, can anyone assure me that an AEI digisender from argos will work with ntl and not bugger my wireless network at the same time?

thanks,

Terry

Thanks for the link, good one!

there were a lot of posts on .com about the IRDA problems with these vid senders but i cant remember what the gist of it was!!

Guess you cant go wrong with the argos 16 day thing so i'll get on tommorow and post back with the results.

I use the same AEI with a SKY+ box alongside a wireless "TrendNet" router to which is connected my laptop, and a desktop PC at the top of the house. This coupled with a wireless Philips baby monitor and they all seem to get on fine except when the kiddie monitor hits 5 bars (Scream level 10) and I get some sparkles on the screen.

I do know that the AEI unit has problems with remote controls and needs some eye thingy whereas SKY is OK

I also get to pick up another wireless video sender somewhere in my estate

Hope this helps

For those who's stbs use the IRDA protocol for the remote control signals (1000, 2000 and 4000, I think), the Digisender Gold x4 (http://www.gadgetsuk.com/xcart/catalog/product_16282_DigiSender_Gold_x4.html) is supposed to be a good 'un.

can anyone confirm if the IR Blaster port at the back on the STB is actually enabled.. i'm building an MCE machine and need to use this to get the remote to work.. there's another thread on here that says it might not be.. i'm on the Bromley platform

i think the remote problems are because NTL use IRDR for the signal and other remotes Sky etc use RC5

OK, finally bought the AEI unit from Argos last night.

Typically as an IT eng I didnt read the book, just stuffed all the plugs in where they looked like they should go and it worked first time!!!

Fantastic picture quality but no remote control to my pace 4000, all other remotes worked fine though. There are a few niggles but to be fair I really need to sit down and work things through properly.

The big moan is that the didgisender should automatically switch inputs, ie. start a dvd and it should switch to dvd from tv. This just aint happening at the mo!

The other moan is that the volume level seems very low, I have to turn the tv way up to get a decent sound output.

Still, so far not to bad. I can live without the remote for now, don't want to pay double the price for the gold version just for that! ( the basic one is on special offer at argos, £69.99)

Will bore you with more results once I have fettled it.

ooooops nearly forgot, using my pc on a wireless lan played havoc with the TV picture until I changed the channel on the digisender. I think it was ok after that but i was terriby, terribly drunk at the time!

Got one of these myself from:
http://www.easylife.co.uk/
works with the remote (not sure which box it is I have), though it does tend to double send the remote requests, so you get 2 channel advances etc.

Plus my wireless LAN seems to not like it either, though I thought I had tried all the channels and not found one it didnt interfere with. Thats with Linksys 54g.
