Let the grass grow on the front lawn a little bit longer than i usually do (i've been busy of late) so had to pull out my trusty old challenge strimmer to get it down to a length that my mower could handle.

Strimming away, i heard the wire snap so looked down to see what i'd hit. I've only gone and chopped a leg off a frog :( How the hell a frog ended up here i don't know? The nearest water is the canal about a third of a mile away!

Thing is the frog is still with us. It can't jump forward anymore but it's good at circles. In short should i take a spade to it's head or do i keep it safe and warm for a few weeks and release it back into the garden?

I like frogs so what's my best course of action?

Cause it hit the strimmer macca. I know wholegrain is good for the heart but i'm not into shredded feet ;)

Seriously it's been 5 hours and the frog is still looking lively and trying it's best to jump out of a bowl. Is there a chance it can make it if i drop it into a stream or something?

Do you not have a wildlife rescue in your area at all?

Macca371

Wouldn't it only be able to move in one big circle with a leg missing? :(

Or not be able to jump even...

Macca371: please read the first post. I did mention it's ability to jump.

Jules: I have no idea if there's a wildlife centre near us but if it shows signs of suffering i will do a painless kill with the sharp edge of a spade. Don't really want to but it will ease it's suffering.

Google it ;)

Nice sentiments Jules but i'd doubt any rescue centre would come calling for a common frog.

Did he also inadvertantly chop its leg off and then use part of the straw to make a crutch so that the frog could jump in a straight line once again? Or did your barbaric friend shove the straw up it's bum and blew so hard that it exploded?

You have (supposed) nice friends.

I strimmed the grass at around 3 today. It's now 10.37 and it still looks lively so it's still here after seven hours. Your not confusing things with my original post time are you?

let it go, the only thing it can't do properly without all 4 legs is ****, that is bad enough, without it being captured, nature will take its course...

You have (supposed) nice friends. The latter I'm afraid. It was a long long time ago, and he was a bit of a psycho. :spin: I remember us chopping a few up at high school, those were the days! :disturbd:

I think the whole thing is really sad, if it was a horse/dog/cat etc people would be horrified but because it is a little frog that some how makes it different...very sad

P.S. I am not having a dig at any one with this post it is just a comment on the human race as a whole

Shabba, you could look here (https://www.rspca.org.uk/servlet/Satellite?pagename=RSPCA/RSPCARedirect&pg=YrLocalHome) to see if the rspca have a centre near you.

Maybe if you tried kissing it, it might turn into a charming prince(ss) That way you could rush him/her to the nearest A&E?

What am I saying? :nutter:

Have the frogs stopped croaking, Shabba? :D

It'll probably snuff it. I'm more worried about the lawn though - a strimmer :disturbd:

Rescued quite a few frogs and toads as a kid. Used to be some sort of access "pit" near the railway - just a metre square, brick-lined hole about a few metres deep. It was left uncovered and they'd hop into it accidently. Lift em out and off they go. Lovely texture to the skin - and very strong legs.

Thanks for all you thoughts, love and support guys :)

Sadly the frog past on sometime between 11.30 and 6.30 am :(

I gave it a burial at sea via the sewage treatment works. I'll never forget that little frog ;)
