It is 01872260795. I rings me about 10 times a day and when i answer there is no one there. I have signed up to www.tpsonline.org.uk (http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/) today. Is there a way to block certain numbers that you dont want calling you ?

A quick Google of the number looks like its happening to a few people. Might be worth calling the nuisence (think that is how you spell it) number in the phone book and reporting it.

ntl's nuisance calls advice line is 0800 052 1370 - i'm not sure if it is just recorded greetings or people to talk to...

It's the right number of digits for a standard phone number.
01872 is the dialing code for Truro in Devon... how odd!

a good help

you could try getting in touch with TPS and let them have the number, see if they can look into it for you.

another useful website is www.icstis.org (http://www.icstis.org)
Now although this isnt a premium rate number which icstis usually only deals with, they returned with this answer:
This is a UK landline phone number covering the Truro area
Does that ring any bells??

Keep a whistle next to the phone and the next time they call, blow it as hard as you can down the phone. If there's anyone playing the old 'silent caller' trick, they'll not like it very much :)

Straight quote from the tps web site:
"Silent Calls If you have been troubled by calls where the phone rings but on answering there is no one there, you may wish to register your number on the Silent Callgard Service on 0870 4443969.

These calls are generated by automatic dialling equipment which dial more numbers than there are operators available to take the calls."

While I can understand company's using this sort of thing to save time etc do they not give a thought to the distress they may be causing people?

I dont think they give a toss to be honest.

I have been plagued by stupid mobile phone companys as my contract was coming to an end.

I ended up having an arguement with one operator.
The conversation went something like this.

ME: Hello
Him: Hello Sir i'm from <name> telecom and we deal with orange direct customers.
Me: no thank you i'm not intrested, please remove my number from your database thank you.
Him: I will do when you have answered my questions.
Me: I refuse to answer any questions, please remove my number
Him: <voice tone=angry) I will do when you have answered my questions.
Me: Listen to me are you deaf remove my number im not intrested!!!

<<clunk>> he put the phone down
Losers, Losers Losers.

Why cant they say:

Hello sir i'm from sucha telecom here is my full name and address please feel free to come and kick the living **** out of me if i offend you and ignore your wishes of removing the number we have stored for you.....

Last night my 80 year old Father got a phone call asking him to press "9" to continue. Fortunately he immediately disconnected. 1471 gives the caller's number as 0845 685 3000 but I can't trace this via Google etc. He has been registered with the Telephone Preference Service for a few years but obviously this particular caller ignores that. Does anyone know the number and is it worth reporting the incident to someone like ICSTIS given the possibility that he could have ended up with a lengthy premium rate call?

It someone trying to do a reverse charge call. I think BT do a similiar service.

Its 0800reverse.

He is with BT and now I've mentioned it he does think that "reverse charge" could have been amongst what little was said. Is the pressing "9" a way of conforming that you will accept the call charges?

I have recently been receiving the same calls from this number and another one similar (01872240331) Everytime I answer the person hangs up without saying a word, its like there is actually no-one there. If you try ringing it back it is constantly engaged. BT suggested that it was probably a machine making the calls and the company concerned are unaware of this. That doesnt excuse the fact that it is really annoying!!!!
Not sure what to do about it.

HI, Firstly not got a clue what this board/forum is I've just registered on...ended up here as I did a search on two of the numbers listed above...ie....018720260795 / 01872240331 as I'd also been getting ten f$%^$ng calls a day from these numbers with silence at the other end! Then happened to get a call not so long ago with a salesbloke at the end.."Hi, I'm from
>>>> g e money lending solutions<<<<"
..."no thanks"...puts the phone down...dialed 1471 & it turned out to be from the same annoying number!
Tracked g e blah blah blah down online & got a number I could ring em up on....told them to take me off their "f£%$^%g database as I'm sick to death of em!...the phonecalls finally stopped! :¬) YIPPEE!!! Just as well as I'd have been finding ways to bombard the b@$^£%d s back!..
Anyways these are the effers so contact em on this number & complain!...
01872 262 222
Think their web addy may be this :¬)
