View Full Version : My child's watching pron!
Just did my weekly search on my 13 yr old boys computer and found that he's got a program that generates a code to watch redhot on freeview!
I initially went berserk and ripped the freeview box out of the wall and banned him from his pc, but then i got to thinking... when i was his age me and my friends acted like a pack of wolves whenever we found or got hold of Razzle and proceeded to knock ourselves senseless down below (hormones and all).
Am i being a bit of a hypocrit or should i, as a parent do my best to shield the lad from this sort of material?
not being a parent i dunno but I would suggest rather than go beserk and punish him how about talking to him about it and seeing if he can regain your trust?
EDIT: oh yeah and PM the program? ;)

He might have been using it to watch Scottish football on Setanta instead of redhot? I've, erm, heard that this program can supply the codes for that as well as the redhot channel. :erm:
Still if that was the case I'd give him up for adoption. Harsh but the only way to teach him. :D
Does the freeview box have an option to remove channels or lock out after a certain time of night?
I suppose the redhot channels are a bit less unsavoury than some of the stuff he could find on the net.
Does your 13 year old also drink loads of "neer" and then puke it all up again?
Personally I'd rather not have a 13 year old child watch that sort of thing however actually stopping them from doing so is another matter.
You could try explaining that it's not acceptable for him to watch it, but then agian, try enforicing it... You've probably got very little in the ways of a chance.
EDIT: Gotta hand it to him though, he's done his research with the sounds of it, programs like that don't just fall to you by chance.
Not very bright of him to not know that you rifle through his files.But than my 17 year old doesn't bother to hide his pron stash on my PC(it's the only one connected to the internet) even though he knows I check it regularly.Mind most of what I find is pretty tame.Anything that I find distasteful I talk to him about..like a very prolonged film excerpt that involved a very unpleasant rape scene..which he had downloaded with a load of other games related stuff.
However he is 17(18) in August and I'm going to have to face up to the fact that he is almost an adult..
I just delete everything whether it's pron or not..teaches him a lesson for a while..until the next time I look.
Never had this problem with his older sister for some reason...;)

Agreed!But my point is that when he is an adult I will have to try and treat him like an adult..not be a nag and try to respect his privacy.Trouble is his sister was almost out of the door when she turned 18 and I thought the same would happen with him.But he's not going to uni in September.Means I'm going to have to remember he is an adult..and not my curly headed tot.:(
Going beserk will simply make him more careful not to be detected next time ;)

I've come to the conclusion that every 13 year old must have the same illicit thoughts that i had way back in 1981. The technology has changed from paper to digital but the result is the same.
I've let him back onto Habbo Hotel but the freeview box is banned.

I do a weekly scourge and also block any of the more unsavoury sites. The freeview hack was given to him by a friend whilst he was at school. I can't monitor that so i've no need to question myself at all!

I think you should put the Freeview box back and tell him you don't approve (but be calm).
I'd then hope he gets another copy of the program from his mate and continues to watch the channel rather than go trawling the internet for stuff. The things he's likely to find on there are much MUCH worse than he going to get on a glossy pron channel! :rolleyes:

I still remember trying to teach a load of school kids about using the Internet. Google comes up with all sorts of stuff (both legal and dodgy) if you search for Britney Spears.
Try keeping a bunch of 13 year olds from searching for Britney Spears..

Think yourself lucky, my 11 year old knows how to turn off any restrictions I put on the comp.
I have caught him on the odd occasion looking for/at stuff he should not be, but when I have had a quiet word with him he has stopped and seems to understand our feelings.
I have found that to blow your stack just makes the situation worse.
one idea I have heard of is to allow access to limited to soft sites under the strict agreement that no other attempt are made to access any others. (controversial I know, but seems to work):2cents:

There are some very sick and twisted people in this world, that think they can get their "kicks" out of watching/looking at it. On another note to the op, have you tried site blocking software? Also if you use IE you can download ie spyad. This program (if you call it a program) is a bunch of registry entries that insert a blacklist of naughty sites into IE's Restricted Sites Zone. So its something to consider.

God I didnt lose my cherry till I was 18 and that was late but by this time I happily been buying Razzle and Club for many years,Its a healthy part of life theres nothing wrong with sexuality repressing your urges isnt good or could turn you into a catholic priest :D
Site blocking is near to useless. There are always keywords and forums that can be bypassed by using net nannies :(

He hasn't got a playstation so no. He does however own an xbox with games that are rated above his age non of which contain explicit sex so i fail to see your point?
