View Full Version : Car Tax after budget...
Evening all
My car is subject to the new rules for car tax, and i need a new disc tomorrow.
I would like to know how much i will be paying...
Direct.gov refers me to the V5 to find out the CO2 emissions, but because i have moved house, the DVLA are currently sitting on this....
Anywhere else that i can find out the emmissions so i know how much money i need to take to the post office tomorrow?

When was your car made?

Damn you just fit into the rules then. Could you phone the DVLA and ask for your Co2 emissions?
I could do... but i need to get the car tax tomorrow, so i might as well just take extra money with me...
I have checked the owners manual and it doesn't tell me the emissions either

It covers cars from late 2001 onwards so yours might be listed.

Have they not sent you a reminder? It say the band on that.
Other than that, you could try buying it online and it would automatically select the right band:

Thanks :) 164 is the answer... so tax stays the same... was hoping for a reduction... booo!
I have got the reminder, but it doesn't state the band... maybe because it was sent before the budget
I taxed mine today, the reminder still had the old price on it.
Guess what?? even though i checked the box, they charged me the new rate :(

There was someone in the queue in front of me and he moaned like hell because he was charged the new rate, i felt sorry for the poor guy behind the desk.

That's cos the rate changed on 23rd march ;)

Any ideas where we can get the details about cars made before then?

All cars made before 2001 are still charged at the old rates.

there is a slight price rise for cars befor 2001
Vehicles with an engine capacity of 1549 or above (registered before the 1st March 2001) which fall into the Private Light Goods tax class will have their annual rate of duty increased by £5.00 to £175.00

I taxed mine today. Was expecting it to be £85 for the year, ended up only being £50. Nice surprise.

A car that is over 25 years old is exempt from tax apparently
You have to get a tax disk but it says zero pounds on it
