I am contemplating the idea of switching my 8MB Bulldog ADSL to TW’s Elite 10MB service. As all I am getting from Bulldog now is 4MB tops, and as their CS is (well, below par to be polite), I was hoping that members who have the Elite service in West London where I live could participate in the poll measuring what kind of speed they are actually receiving from their TW broadband.

Another question if you’d know, do I have to change my phone service over to Telewest or can I just get Broadband without phone service?

Many thanks for your help and for the very informative forums
:tu:

PS I used the speed test here www.ADSLguide.org (http://www.adslguide.org/)

You don't have to take any TW services to get their BB package.

Perhaps I should explain that the speeds other people are getting are, at best, a guide to performance in the area.

You seem a tad too obsessed with speed to be honest. There are various other reasons to choose ISP, aren't there?

Have you considered Be* ? http://www.bethere.co.uk ?

Well who is not obsessed with speed - afterall what Broadband is all about is how fast you can download & surf the Net. That being said, ofcourse there are other aspects for choosing an ISP and to me that is (Customer service, reliability and Speed). But that's just me, others ofcourse might have other reasons for choosing their ISP like: webspace, emails, firewalls....etc.

As I am now with Bulldog, I cannot do any worse by moving to ANY ISP available in my area in terms of Customer service, and TW are known for a reasonable CS and are reliable which leaves SPEED ;)

Looking at the results (or lack of) to your poll I'd say it's still in your hands, though I'd expect TW to outperform the 4Mbit Bulldog service.
