Insanely Hi Connection Speeds!

Are you not seeing speeds reported in Kbps rather than Kb/sec which is how IE reports speeds? (for example on a 2MB link you would expect to see around 220kb/sec in an Ie download perhaps)

There is no way firefox, or any other application is going to be able to recieve data any quicker than any other?

Every now and then a UBR will have a brain fart and give out very fast speeds :)

FireFox will start a download before you push the go button, Something to do with the caching on the page.

well there are a lot of user say its true, I dont know i am tending to use ie7 beta at the moment.

Maybe its just pure coincidence that the speeds started flicking all over the place right at the sametime I installed FireFox.... I aint complaining thats for sure.;)

firefox=browser browser=inaccurate way of measuring speeds. Try downloading over ftp or nntp and see what you get then.

Chris, what download speeds was it reporting? Also try the Speed test on the forum navbar and paste your results here.

NNTP and FTP = inaccurate also dependant on external sources

whatever protocol you use it depends on external sources, ntl provide an internet connection so if speeds slow down due to internet problems they are still accurate for what they are. Higher != accurate all the time.


Many times it could be ntl peering causing slowdowns and its easy to blame the src when its blameless.

Browsers will cache data as you choose a place to save and have a high initial burst fudging the figures.

I was getting insanely high connection speeds too lol... One of the lucky users thats 10 meg has been fixed as it were... getting spikes of 1.6 MB, leveled out at 1.31MB
