This is what i got, so i would say town.

Back to the UK for today's offering. It's a Mill town but it's NOT in Lancashire.

My best guess is Macclesfield. Those houses on the hill look a bit "Cheshire". Other ideas: Hebden Bridge? Todmorden? New Mills? Mossley? Marsden/Slaithwaite/Linthwaite?

Google Earth does West Yorkshire well. If you've got a fast link and some time on your hands you could follow all the canals.

Do you have a higher-res picture? I'm wondering whether that green and white sign would be readable.

See I come from a famous former blanket mill town, sadly all gone or converted now.

Without the houses behind it I'd have said Pleasley Mills near Mansfield, I'll have a go at Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire.

See Google Images are the key to success. For a close picture I searched for Converted Mill
