http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest

I go to that site and take the speed test and im only getting 1.9 megabits per second and im on a 10mb connection, any suggestions of what im doing wrong? Also on torrents with lots of seeders and not many leechers i get around the 500 - 600kb/s in speed, surely i should get more than this? Any suggestions on what im doing wrong? Or suggestions on how to speed it up. Thanks.

Are you on a stb or a modem? Do you use a router as well?

I just tried it and this is my result: 704.2 kilobits per second

Think the site is wrong if you try adslguide.org I get the correct speed!

Edit: I'm on the 2Mb teir by the way!

Just done a speed test on adslguide.org and one on here and i'm getting 1.9Mb which is good!

using that site I get 754.6 kilobits per second (i'm on 10Mb).
Using UK based sites including this one http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/speed.php I get full 10Mb.

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but my internet is through the silver NTL modem thing? Through ethernet.

Cheers everyone, is there anyway i can speed my d/l's up or anything? cheers agian.

This is the speed i get from the site you provided:
Downstream2755 Kbps (344.4 KB/sec)2975 Kbps (inc. overheads)Upstream484 Kbps (60.5 KB/sec)522 Kbps (inc. overheads)

what does it tell you if you go here (http://192.168.100.1/) the username is root and the password is also root - click operation config on the left, then look at what the Maximum Downstream Data Rate: is? I normally get my right speed when I test it here (http://www.irishisptest.com/myspeed/).

I just did it on my 2meg, it looks more like an upload speed :Yikes:

Communications 417.3 kilobits per second
Storage 50.9 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 20.1 seconds
Subjective rating Not bad

looks accurate to me, marking a site off because it doesnt report 10meg does not make it inaccurate.

Hey, ok the first site gives my maximum downstream data rate as:
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 10240000

And this is a picture of the second site you gave me:

So what kind of download speed should i be getting when downloading torrents etc? Thanks agian.

Try downloading a large file from a large site that won't be saturated. microsoft, ati, nvidia, bbc or something.

monkey2468 by your reckoning if a speedtest shows a slow speed it is inaccurate?

it can never be ntl right?
