New modem = 10mb speeds slower?

hi all, new to the forum so go easy ;)

i recently had some problems with my telewest service, i lost all service, and only had one light flashing on my old motorola modem. tech came out and said something about a low signal and managed to get it so all the lights came back on the modem etc, but said it was an old one and he would change it to the new ones.

ive been given a webstar epc2100 and since then my speeds have been lower than the old 4 meg service. also web browsing is noticeably slower. done all the usual checks and there doesnt seem to be anything at fault. just wondering if anyone know of either:

a) if this new modem is rubbish and the cause of slowness
b) any other things i can do to check stuff, tests etc

hahaha, ignore this chaps. all is ok.

fixed the problem. got two pcs networked through a router. checked the other networked pc and it had a 30 meg psd constantly being attempted to email out from outlook and failing miserably.

its been doing this for a week. 24 hours a day. :o:
