Hello folks,

I am on the 2.5mb service delivered via the silver set-top box. For the past month I've been getting less download bandwidth than I usually get; for UK sites I used to get the maximum (230-235KB/sec) but now its around 190KB/sec, non UK sites are even worse. I have checked NTL's service status page and while it mentions national matainance it says nothing about the service in my area, Greater Manchester. The speed tests I have found on this forum confirm my problem.

I will report this to NTL but I thought I would post here in case there is a simple answer. My problem started around the time people were being upgraded to the 10mb service, is there a connection?

Thanks for any help.

Just to make sure are you on the 2 or 3 meg service, ntl do not do a 2.5meg one. I will assume you are on the 2, ntl state ( http://www.ntlworld.com/helpsupport/support/solution.php?package=broadband&curTitle=Speed%20issues&lastLevel=<a%20href=broadband_cat_iassist.php>Internet%20assistance</a>&curURL=I_experience_slow_speeds.htm ) that you should get UPTO 256KB/s so you are not that far from what you should have, if you can press on you remote.....page up then page down then the blue button, you should get a blue screen come up, can you tell us what these are:
SNR
AGC sig lvl
return power lvl

These are all you can really check on a stb before getting CS involved.

Apologies, you're all correct, there is no 2.5mb service. I am on the 2mb service. Do you think its the 10mb customers taking up the bandwidth?

So theres no point contacting them? Do you think the situation will improve after this 'national maintenance' process is finished?

the maintenance will never end, it goes on and on :)
