Wyh is the forums speed test showing upload speed instead of download???It isn't, that was the download speed it measured. It cannot measure upload speed.

This site asked for a user name and password?Looks like ntl have blocked general access to their "test".

This was suggested on another thread. I can't even get it to work. I don't know about a password though.

1: i dont know the user/pass for the ntl site
2: the forum speed test is giving me a download speed of 0.5mb this is wrong as i have tried five other tests and they all give the same speed of 4.0mb
3: is it legal to change yor web proxy for better connection

Paul

3. Yes.

Cableforum also responds to port 81, so you can cut out the proxy completely if you want ;

wow the :81 test is like a breath of fresh air, if only we can be proxy free in general.

wow the :81 test is like a breath of fresh air, if only we can be proxy free in general. That's quite interesting, because what I forgot was that the files it downloads are on my ntl webspace, and accessed via port 80 (and proxy) still. Hopefully when we move server we can host them ourselves as the new box is on a high speed connection.

port 80 like you said tho hmm.

Paul when you move can you put the actual data download on port 81 as well then please?

Paul

netstat will not show you connected to a proxy, it will show you connected to the remote server, that's why they are called transparent proxy servers. :)

Chrysalis

yeah seems odd because once I used it when streaming of bbc and that showed the proxy but for websites it shows the website so does look like its using a proxy. I guess because it was faster then I expected I just assumed wow.

Out of interest can I have the code for the speedtest I may be able to host a link or is it private code?

1st 512K took 3015 ms = 169.8 KB/sec, approx 1290 Kbps, 1.3 Mbps
2nd 512K took 7203 ms = 71.1 KB/sec, approx 540 Kbps, 0.5 Mbps
3rd 512K took 2203 ms = 232.4 KB/sec, approx 1766 Kbps, 1.7 Mbps
4th 512K took 3860 ms = 132.6 KB/sec, approx 1008 Kbps, 1 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 1151 Kbps, 1.13 Mbps

ADSL Guide
Downstream 1261 Kbps (157.6 KB/sec) 1361 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 327 Kbps (40.9 KB/sec) 353 Kbps (inc. overheads)

It says 1Mbps but browsing is more like 56K and that’s with no p2p software running. I've tried different proxies without results. Pings seem ok, tracerts can be a bit bumpy but not too bad. It’s been like this for a day or two but I won’t have time to call NTL until Friday.

AbyssUnderground

The test was only ever capable of doing download speed. Its possible the pcs you checked it on the broadband was congested or the CF connection was congested at the time.

Nice too see that the forum speedtest has been sorted out!!!!It didn't like the gzipping when it was part of the page so I had to split it off as the pop-up.
