buying a 107 ?!

It's still quite a new model. I'd be surprised if there was much room for price cuts on that. Are there any deals from Walchry (as a Hersham boy, I suspect that's where you are going ;) ), i.e. insurance, low interest, etc. That might give you some barganing power.

Do check the insurance situation before you buy. Can you afford it given you have no no claims bonus? If it is a manufacturer deal, do their conditions allow you as anew driver to sign up?

Bear in mind that the moment a car touches the road for the first time a lot of money is lost from it's value. As a first car do you really need to buy new?

My thoughts exactly. You can get a lot more car for your money if you buy second hand. I bought a 2 year old citroen C5 diesel (13,000 miles) for 8k from the citroen dealer not too long ago.

Don't buy a new car! Never EVER! The lose about £1k ther moment you drive of the dealers forcourt. By a new last years model - you get a good couple of £K of the original price and you might get some extra add-ons to boot.

while taking on board the comments about depreciation and new cars, we buy ours on a 'leaseback' scheme. This is where we effectively only pay for half the car and agree to pay a lump sum when the agreement finishes - except that staying with the same dealer & changing the car every 3 years means the agreement doesn't actually finish, but rolls on.

- advantage to us is never having a car less than 3 years old, at an affordable price, for the 'inconvenience' of staying with the same dealer.

- not for everyone, of course, but thought I'd share. :)

I looked at the Citreon version when the 1st came out (I worked for a citroen garage) Thought they where very poor to be honest, seating position in the rear was bad and the whole thing looked cheaply made.

I drive a Kia Picanto 1.1, Cost for a 24 yrd old female and a 30 yr old male to insure £185 :)

I think if you test drove one then drove the pug you would not buy the pug.

Cost from £5695 new.

According to Parker's Car Guide's investigation into depreciation the Picanto lost less than any other car in the UK during 2005.

Also have a look at the prices available on the Citroen C1 (http://www.citroen.co.uk/c1/) and the Toyata Aygo (http://www.toyota.co.uk/aygo) which are all the same car as the Peugeot 107 (http://www.peugeot.co.uk/107)!

Depends where you buy it from in real terms you can be better off buying new if you strike the right deal.

I'll happily check over any deals for people if they want. Advise them on true px value.

If you buy a 1 year old Ford from a Ford dealer that cost £10000 new then its maybe going to be priced higher to encourage new buyers that they are going to loose money on thier investment or higher so they can sell you a new one be stating that there is little difference. At some point people take their cars to a non franchise dealer and find out its worth less and that 1year old £10000 car is worth £6000.

My £7250 car (bought for £6550) in 2004 will still fetch £5000 at least.

My loss is £1550 For 2 years driving.

If I had taken My £6550 and bought a Y reg pug 206 then my car would be worth £3500 px (tops) and would not have been covered by a 3 year unlimited mileage manufacturers warranty. I would not have been driving a top spec car with abs,ebd,mp3 and full electrics with air con.

this is what i will be doing as well i have a final payment of £3,87.0 0 after 2 years , i did look at the c1 and the atgo but they cost a bit more then the 107 .thanks for all of you help

Be very careful with that final payment. Often based on an estimated value of the car, especially if you expect to hand the car back to the dealer or something in lieu of making the final payment.

Amount of mileage done, car conditon, all sorts can mess up your expectations.

Also be wary of those schemes because the one we ran had a code to enter s1000 etc were the number was commision paid to the dealer. You will get the best deal if you shop on the internet.

This site I know for a fact after working with the chap charge the lowest price possible for cars. (his mark up is under 100 quid.

Alwys arrange you finance through a bank or direct lender and in the long run if you did both you would knock upto 2 grand off the cost of owning a new car.

The site link is part of the stoneacre group but run by a very helpful chap, all cars are spanking new and delivered to your door with 6 months tax.

Edit it seems the site is no longer in action sorry. But do look about on the internet there will be better deals available.

That's the thing with new cars - the value of the 107 daz300 has just bought would have dropped to under £6900 as soon as it was driven off the forecourt. I'd never buy new. A couple of years old, then you're getting your moneys worth, and hopefully asny problems with the car would have been discovered and dealt with.
