Ambergris makes it sound feminine and pretty. Only marketing could do that.
I wonder what they would call dried dog poo? Eau de turdette?
Suggestions on a postcard..

Ambergris makes it sound feminine and pretty. Only marketing could do that.It doesn't need 'marketing' to make it sound nice - the stuff spends years bobbing around the oceans, being subjected to sun, salt water and varying temperatures. This process changes the material from 'whale puke' to 'ambergris'. During this process it changes significantly and becomes a sweet perfumed material.
Like carbon is converted to diamond, the forces of nature have the ability to turn something dirty and common into something rare and exquisite.

So there's hope for me yet?
as long as you don't mind being bobbed up and down in the sea for a while....
I suggest the next forum meet is somewhere on the coast so we can all get out and look for some of this stuff.
And whilst we are looking for that, we can bring metal detectors and search for gold treasure too.
Votes on who would pick up the live jellyfish, thinking they have struck gold :erm:

So there's hope for me yet? :beer:I think that's a desperate hope... ;)
Typical animal products used in perfume include musk from the male musk deer, ambergris from sperm whales, castoreum a secretion of the beaver and civet from the civet cat. All are used as fixatives and add an indefinable mystery to the smell at the same time.

So there's hope for me yet?
I very much doubt it...
