Anyone else experiencing complete drop outs in connectivity in the Portsmouth area? I have been suffering continual drop outs that last about thirty seconds for the past week or so then the connection comes back to life? Or is this just standard NTL service?!?

Not entirely! :td:
I seem to be having a bit of a proxy problem in Southsea. When connected to a site, downloading is OK; but connection to websites can vary from a 2 - 30 seconds.

It has not been this poor for ages, and nothing has changed at my end.

I see that NTL status page shows planned maintenance - "Network optimisation will result in a loss of service in the Portsmouth etc etc. . . . .areas" twice this week!!

Stand by to reboot your modems!

I am having the exact same issue. For the last week been getting 30s ish loss of connection in the Waterlooville area.

I called NTL broadband support who told me my modem was working fine, and of course there was no problem when I was on the phone *sigh*

Let me know how the engineers visit goes!

I have been experiencing cut outs in waterlooville. Quite frequently getting signed out and cut off VoIP software. I had a similair problem before where my signal levels needed turning up and a forward path attentuator fitted.

I dont think this is the problem, my signal levels are fine, just extremely brief cut-outs over the past few days. Sure its the upgrades for those lucky 3 meggers! :(

i'm in the waterlooville area as well and last week the net did seem very slow and it did go down a few times. But this week it's slighty better.
I think NTL better try and upgrade the network again, seems everything is going slow.

NTL report that slow browsing in the Portsmouth area may be due to proximity to France.

In Southsea the last two days there is slow browsing during the evenings around 21:00-22:30 and loss of connection for 20 minutes at around 00:30. Generally service is great all day long. :tu:

(γειτονα:P) Im having the slow browsing problem only today, and i had a loss of service last night from 00:15 to 01:00. And it gets worst.

Anyway, i cant complain at all, as i always had more than excellent service

My connection was down from 15:00 yesterday and was still down at midnight. Been ok so far today. First problem I've had in over 3 years. Got an engineer coming tomorrow to check for a fault, not sure whether to cancel or not as service seems fine just now. :eh:

I see they also quote routine maintenance 'On the morning of Thursday the 2nd of February between midnight and 6 AM, Network optimisation will result in a loss of service in the Coventry, . . .etc. . ., Cosham, . . .etc. . ., and surrounding areas.'

At this momemt, in the Portsmouth PO5 area, the email isn't responding and the service status states a number of 'on going' items the internet connection is fine!!!

---------- Post added at 17:33 ---------- Previous post was at 17:14 ----------

Re my last post there are five items on the service status page at http://www.ntl-isp.ntl.com/ServiceStatus/

The service status page http://www.ntl-isp.ntl.com/ServiceStatus/ has one outstanding issue regaurding BroadbandPlus all others have been sorted.
It is the problem with some BroadbandPlus sites, that new subscribers like me, cannot access.

IN the PO7 area here, if anything the prime time connection problems have got worse since they finished fixing the connectivity issues. Guess my problems are due to congestion. Could you lot all go do somethign else in the evening#?
