Hi

Does anybody know why on the 10Mb connection the speed is like this
I have noticed this now for over a week and its poor I dont expect
10mb but i do expect more than this , although in the morning the speed is much better
and i understand at weekends and weeknights it can be lower due to net traffic
but even then i think the speed should be better than this unless i am wrong ?

anybody have any ideas and are you suffering just like me , i am in the south manchester area

Cheers

I find the speedtest on this board very unreliable and inconsistant. I just got

1st 512K took 1032 ms = 496.1 KB/sec, approx 3770 Kbps, 3.7 Mbps
2nd 512K took 734 ms = 697.5 KB/sec, approx 5301 Kbps, 5.2 Mbps
3rd 512K took 766 ms = 668.4 KB/sec, approx 5080 Kbps, 5 Mbps
4th 512K took 828 ms = 618.4 KB/sec, approx 4700 Kbps, 4.6 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 4713 Kbps, 4.63 Mbps

But I just downloaded a service pack from Microsoft at around the maximum speed of 10mbit.

Whenever testing your speed, use more than one reference before worrying.

Newshosting is my reference, i find speed tests useless for 10Mb.

this is what I just got for mine (Stoke-on-Trent area) supposedly 3Mb/10Mb (not sure anymore what I'm on)

1st 512K took 2953 ms = 173.4 KB/sec, approx 1429 Kbps, 1.4 Mbps
2nd 512K took 3484 ms = 147 KB/sec, approx 1211 Kbps, 1.18 Mbps
3rd 512K took 2000 ms = 256 KB/sec, approx 2109 Kbps, 2.06 Mbps
4th 512K took 3094 ms = 165.5 KB/sec, approx 1364 Kbps, 1.33 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 1528 Kbps, 1.49 Mbps

For 37.99 a month this is disgraceful and I'm sick of waiting around for it to be sorted. I shall be switching to another ISP if it hasn't been resolved by the end of this week :(

for those people getting poor speeds, try again without your firewall.
I have had to change twice before getting full speed.
