Many of the Network/Service Technicians and Engineers in ntl will find this familiar these days! It's certainly what they say in ntl South Wales. ;)

Well I like my job because it means I generally don't have to work too hard to make sufficient money!

Technically I could say I'm at it 24/7 because it's in the room next door to this one!

I don't have a boss and I am amply recompensed.....working from our annex:p :D

.....but I have had lots of real sh*tty jobs with ba*tard bosses for bugg*r all money so I can entirely sympathise with anyone who is unhappy in their job.

I'm really happy where I am, there's a great bunch of people and the job is interesting. But I voted 'ok' rather than '24/7' because I also believe in work/life balance and I have a lovely wife and son too. I couldn't miss out on time with them just to spend longer hours in an office, no matter how good the job.

I like my current job. Which is also my longest in the same position. Its an interesting and still fairly specialist field MPEG/DVB. I learn things all the time, get toys to play with and for the most part enjoy it. I'm gonna vote for OK tho, as theres been a few occasions where problems have meant I've been there for over 24 hrs, and at that point I've gone way past enjoying it. Also the 19th of September 2002 at 1.10 in the morning was the start of the worst day I've ever had at work.

I'm a security guard on a really delapidated abandoned factory.

I have to walk round once an hour - but the rest of the time (55mins) I can do what I want...

Watch TV - play on my gameboy sp - play about on my pocket computer.

Whatever I like....

My job blows...well it's not the job itself, it's the company and the way it refuses to give any employees a permanent contract, preferring instead to give us 3-month-renewable temporary contracts.

Communication from within is worse than NTL and the database is PANTS!

Oh they do apparently, and blog too :)

Let's just see them prove it's the guy who works there ;)

If its abandoned then why are you guarding it? :Peaceman:
Ever been burgled tho? Would you confront a suspicious character? Don't think I would, and I'm a fairly large chap!!

I guess the new owners just want someone there.

It has never been burgled - but has had a few raves there.

And yes - I have confronted some suspicious characters.

Again, another job which should come with baseball bat as standard. I know I couldn't be a teacher, not in a Comprehensive or equivelent. Not enough patience.

Actually all you really need is to LIKE children and a lot of enthusiasm plus a modicum of patience.Oh and the ability to say when you don't know something, that you don't know, but lets find out together.

We are not allowed weapons :Peaceman: - but I have a nice hefty maglite - it's surprising how much damage you can do with a maglite.

No radio contact - just a mobile phone.

Our site is the furthest out (bedfordshire) from where the company is based (essex)

I loved my job at NTL, had a fantastic manager when I first started there, if he were to contact me and offer me my old job back, I'd find it hard to say no (hint hint)

I admit that all my direct managers at ntl were good bosses, but I think even a good manager is under so much stress these days to meet all the target figures.

I thought ntl were bad when I left, but I think you would find it a much worse place to work these days. (Lots of warnings and disciplinaries fllying around now)

So if you have not had a day off sick in the last 3 - 4 years Morris - could it be time for you to have a really nasty case of flu, say on the30th Dec?? That should take you over the New Year nicely!! :naughty:

I think one of the worst jobs I had was on the end of a phone for a mail order company. No names  but I had to answer calls from people who have just bought a PC but have no idea why!!!

The 2 most memorable calls were:
1: I need a clear mouse.... (after 20 mins of stupid conversation about peripherals and why clear mouse is not such a hot idea)... so I can see the pointer under it.

2: My power switch is broken.... (again, very long call) only to find out that she had trodden on the mouse, thinking it worked like her sewing machine.

We had regular daft's, like "I don't know what's wrong, it just won't boot up...... keep saying 'Remove disk in Drive A and press any key' what should I do?" but the thing that allways amazed me about all of the calls was..... given that their level of PC intelect was so low they didn't know how to use the mouse / switch it on / start Windows, what on earth were they going to do once it was turned on and why did they pay the best part of a grand for it??!!

But now, I work for ME!

I take cars off the road and dispose of them for my local council. I also take bad debtors cars too.... sometimes it can be a bit 'rough' but I find the best weapon of defence is quick reply's and police back-up just a radio away! The days of using 'heavys' or a bat are long gone now.
