Hi all,

Ive just installed Norton Internet Security 2004 and am getting Echo requests like there's no tomorrow.

The symantec site says the below:

About disabling ping on the Symantec Firewall/VPN appliance

Situation:
You need to know if you can prevent the Symantec Firewall/VPN appliance from responding to ping requests.

Solution:
Currently, there is no way to disable ping (ICMP echo) responses from the Symantec Firewall/VPN appliance.

The best way to block ping traffic to the Symantec Firewall/VPN appliance is to drop ICMP echo requests at your border router. If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) handles your border router, they can configure it to drop ICMP echo requests for you.

If that's the case, how do NTL block them?

You could setup the XP default firewall to stop incoming pings maybe, but using two firewalls would probably cause problems.

If NIS 2004 is anything like NIS2003 i'd get rid of it and get something that works!! I had no end of trouble with NIS2003 and in the end symantec refunded my money as there was no solution to a number of the problems
